I have a doctors appointment next week because my left wrist has a small raised bump on the top, which I think is a form of carpal tunnel. I think it may be a result from casting and reeling because that is the only time it hurts and swells up. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and what was done to to cure or relieve the pain?
Thanks,
Larry Zepeda

Re: Carpal Tunnel (fishing injury)
Hey Larry, I too have symptoms of carpal tunnels myself. I was scheduled to see a specialist today for both wrists, normal squeeze pressure from your hand is 130lbs. for us.....mine was 110 in one and 90 in the other (no not that one either!)......well I had to cancel and re-schedule because the Jerkbait bite on the boilers was on fire for the Calico's today!!!!....OUCH!!

Another thing ...
Tempory fix is to ice the area for at least 15 minutes about 30 minutes BEFORE and After your exersize. Ibuprofin or another anti-inflamitory will help but not illeviate the problem. Hope this helps.

Re: Carpal Tunnel (fishing injury)
Thanks for the information guys, I hope my wrist is not too bad and it can be taken care of. I don't care I will still fish even if it means I have to use duct tape on my wrist (lol)j/k.

Carpal Tunnell
Hey Larry, when I was playing football and catching 100's of passes everyday I had an injury which was similar to Carpul Tunnel. Let me know if this sounds similar.
There are two major tendons/ligaments something (I believe its tendons though) that cross right about where you would wear a watch. Through over use of your hands and wrists these can rub against each other and swell up. Mine were so swollen I thought I had broken both of my arms, I literally couldn't stand to move either wrist. I thought maybe I got hit on the arms in the course of a game or fell on the artificial turf wrong on both of them... If your injury is that far up the wrist here was my team doctors soluton.
Naproxen - Ice and rest...
I did the Naproxen and Ice, By-passes on the rest, I wasn't good enough to miss practices.... but, I did, Ice them about 3 times a day for at least 3 months... Haven't had a problem since then. For the rest of my playing career I did wrist exercises every morning and night.. If you are interested in those excercises.. let me know and I will email them to you.. pretty basic stuff... mostly just pushing the range of movement, more of a stretch than anything.
Good luck with it.. Assuming your injury is similar to mine... I know it is extremely painful!

Re: Carpal Tunnel (fishing injury)
Tom,
The injury you experienced sounds very familiar to what I have, between the two tendons or ligamnets. Most people I show think I have a broken wrist, but I know for a fact it's not broken because that is a different kind of pain. I would be interested in those exercises you mentioned if you can shoot me an e-mail. My doctors appiontment is next week because I had to reschedule, but until then I will try the ice thing you mentioned. Hopefully it will be fine for the Cachuma AC tournament this weekend.
