KNOT FOR BRAID TO MONO

Post by OREGON SMALLIES »

:?: SHOULD KNOW THIS, BUT WHAT KNOT DO I USE TO ATTACH THE BRAID LINE I GOT TO THE MONO ON MY SPINNING REEL, AND CAN YOU JUST LAY ON THE FLOOR TO SPOOL ON AND DO THE FLIP OVER THING OR A BETTER WAY TO SPOOL IT FOR NO TWIST. IS IT THE SAME KNOT USED TO TIE ON FLOURO LEADER?

I use a blood knot but know several others use a uni knot.
I have yet to have a blood knot fail.

I have had both of those nots fail on me. Adding a bit of superglue to the knot had made a huge difference but it isn't 100% effective. I have quit this practice. If I plan on using braid the whole spool is filled with it.

If you're using mono backing, and a braid top shot of 100 yds or so, you'll probably never get into the mono backing. But if you do, a back to back Uni knot, wet before it's cinched, will be fine. Leave a 1/2" tag of braid. It's so limp, it won't matter. And if you do get into the mono, you'll have so much line out you won't put much strain on the knot anyway.

When tying knots of different line diameter I've always used an Albright Knot and never had any problems result. Check out the link below for more details on various knots.

Hi Oregon Smallies; I live in Idaho & thats what I fish for are the Smallies. I use 20-30lb. Power Pro & tie on a 14-17lb Floro. I have used the double uni for a long time. Its a great knot, very strong & simple to tie. If I break off form a hang up it is always on the Palimar knot on the hook & not on the double uni. When I tie the uni, I loop each line four times. Try it, I think you will like it. Dave

Albright knot

I've used the Albright knot without fail for 4 years.
Same knot I use for tying leader to flyline. As sTony
said about different thicknesses and that is the key
reason to use the Albright.

:D Thanks for the advice. The albright looks easy to tie I may give it a go. Included a link I found that has real nice animated illustrations.
