caught this today on the delta, at first I was thinking black crappie, but it was shaped more like a blue gill It is hard to tell in the pic but it was very purple looking hue. It had the dark blue spot with a red outline on its gill plate like a red ear, and its tail was also outlined in orange! it was about 6" long and very thick. It hammered a 6" senko!! been fishing the delta for 25 years and caught my share of everything that swims there, including crappie, but nothing like this. It was actually very cool looking!

yeah, it is known as a warmouth, they will sometimes be lighter in color then that

I catch alot of them that size and a little bigger working tx rigs on the edges of grass, sometimes they will even eat a 1 1/4oz jig in the grass

You are 100% correct!! I'd never seen one so dark and purple like that! Too, I've never caught one in the Delta! LOL after a few searches I found some pics that were close but they all had orange or yellow bellies! Could be just a time of year color thing! Thanks!

I have had them tag crankbaits, they are like bluegills on roids.

whats crazy is I have caught them with their bellies so huge it looks like they are going to bust, you look in their mouth and half a crawfish is sticking out of their throat and they still tried to eat a jig.

I am averaging about 1 Warmouth bass every 5 years at Lake Amador. I have never caught one anywhere else. They hit hard for their size and their mouth is amazingly big!
