That's an easy one to answer - any color and model. It's really a matter of how much do you want to spend when you know the abuse the stripers will put on the lure after a few outtings - $50 vs $20.

Personnally I use the injected rattling models and make a slight modification to make them silent. Oakie shad and trout are the 2 colors you'll find in my striper box.

Hope this helps

trout has been by far my best all around color, 6" wood version is a killer, be it on Clear Lake, the Delta, or Berryessa.

I find they will come up from about 15ft to hit the punker. I have caught them in deeper water but they were schooling bait at the surface. Best bets are around points, weed beds on the flats and breaks and anywhere you have swift water moving around something.

I'm usually fishing from the bank out to 15ft.....

which trout color are you throwing, i see theres flash trout, rainbow trout, ghost trout? Do you do good with them from the shore? What time s best for punkers? Are you using the 6" or 5" molded ones?

I don't think color matters a whole bunch. In 08, I was tossing the wooden Baby Bass fer three weeks in Lil Mandy, smackin 5-15 fish a day. Clients and friends, used the white or River shiner, they caught em too. Last year I tied on the Injected shiner with rattles, never took it off all season long. THis year, I tied on the White injected, w/out rattles, catchin plenty of fish. One thing is fer sure though, the big blackies, have really preferred this white one I'm tossing this year.

Like MikeH said, color really doesn't matter with these stripers. But the sound and the action indeed makes a difference. I prefer not to use my wooden ones on the stripers, they just tear em ta shreads. These new injected ones are perfect, and they will hit any of the three sizes. Some days they want the noise created by the rattles, other days they don't. So it's a good idea ta have one of each on the deck and ready ta go.

Ah, yes they will definately put the hurt to your wooden punker. Cooch is correct in that. The reason I prefer the wood is the wind effects the cast much less. When it's howling out there you can still chuck the wood version much further, and it will ride lower in the wave. Fish both and have fun developing your own preference.

Good luck,

injected white and i add black spots with a magic marker all over...but i put black spots on everything , swim baits....spoons too....not one black spot....lots of em....i dont know if youve tried the new topwater from paycheck baits "the One" nice lure....been using the bone color again adding black dots throughout and getting good action....been fishing on the middle river near mildred by the bridge and ferry....nothing huge yet but lots of 25-32 inchers....been ripping weightless super flukes....white,silver glitter too ...........leaving an oversize worm hook slightly exposed and ripping it fast as i can....they hit it best when i rip it out of the water..........it hits the water.....BOIL fish on

nice to know that its hitting at mildred....definately the wood will walk better on those windy choppy days...and also true that these stripers will chew up that wood punker!!! :( i just bought mines about a month ago and now my punker is pretty mess up....these stripers hit it so hard, its like the punker stepping on a mine and BOOM! a fat explosion...so freakn awesome the past weeks im been going out....my top hook eye ring started to twist off now....gotta get that repair before it gets worst....im fishing on the bank up here in sacramento at this cove and everytime i go out, i always have good action!!!!! :D monster blowups!
