That sounds ominous. At least it's gotten the attention of the State water people.

What a CROCK! Prolly just another ploy by Resnik and the water moguls! Let's kill all the weeds, stick another nail in life support coffin of the fish here in an effort to completely destroy this fishery. With out the fish, these folks have no opposition at all to prevent them from continueing to rape this River system, every lake in the north state and fisheries of it's water.

Not ta leave out, Quite clearly, these folks in this news report have not lived on this River system for very long, this is not the worst it's been! LMAO!

did you notice that all the filming and boat ride was done during a very low tide. made it more dramatic.
here's the email address of the lady who made the comments about "fish cant swim thru it"

AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

Here's my response from Karen Mcdowell- I emailed her today.

Hi Pete,

I would like to note that I am not directly involved with the Egeria control program. My efforts are primarily on prevention programs for other aquatic invasive species. I was just stating the impacts of this invasive species and aquatic weeds in general, and how this invasion was likely caused by an aquarium dumping. I didn't have really anything to do with promoting this story besides answering a few questions (they clipped out the parts of the answers they liked and put them into the news clip, some without the full context). I was noting that in the areas that get totally overgrown and clogged, the large fish cannot swim through these areas (this is an extreme situation, but does occur). In addition, the overgrown areas can also impact the water chemistry, which can have negative impacts to the fish. The number of areas that are totally overgrown in the delta to the degree that I mentioned is probably very limited and might not even exist in Discovery Bay, but that was not the question they asked me.

The primary reason why this control program is funded is because it impacts boaters by clogging waterways and marinas. Boaters are a well organized community and put together massive letter writing campaigns when they are negatively impacted.

I have nothing to do with the Invasive Weed Task Force that was mentioned on the television (In fact, that was the first time I had heard of that effort).

My program focuses on prevention programs, not long-term control programs. Really my whole reason for appearing on the segment is so that people can see the negative impacts of an aquatic invasive species and possibly change their behavior, so they are not introducing new ones into the environment or spreading existing ones around to new areas.

Cheers,

Karen
