2011 Winter Nutcase-Nor Cal

Post by flipit »

Ok fellow nut cases, its time to plan our winter event. Ive heard since I won the fall event I am punished by planning the winter even. So here is what Ive come up with. Our target or lake of choice will be Bullards Bar. Its about the same drive as Oroville for most of us, and in the same general vicinity. The difference is Bullards Bar has a better class of fish(hear say as I never been there). Anyway January 22nd looks to be a good date. I believe the AC pro/am is the following weekend on Oroville, so all you studs can come and show us how its done on your way to prefish. Its also the weekend of the ISE show in Sacramento so you can stop in the day before or the day after and enjoy the show. It also leaves little time for the So-Cal folks to enjoy the Top NUt status. Same deal as usual, lots of food and fun, only this time the fishing will be red hot.

So who is gonna find some time for some fun? Come out and join us on this trophy spotted bass lake, and bring your jigs.

Sean(Current Top Nut)

Nice post count Scott

Looks like a good date to me. Our club is up there in February, here is a response we got from some of the folks up there:

Glad to hear your group will include Bullards Bar next year. Unlike many
lakes, there are no special permits, tournament fees or requirements at
Bullards Bar. At the present time, we do not anticipate any launch or
parking fees either. There is no cost to host your event here.

In February, many fisherman park their vehicles and trailers off to side of
the launch ramp. Please advise your members to be courteous and to respect
other boater's need to launch and park there as well. The key is to make
sure that both vehicle and trailer is off the paved portion of the launch
ramp and obviously not in a position to impede others from accessing the
marina entrance or launching another boat.

You are more than welcome to use the main area of our docks for your weigh
in and would welcome the opportunity share the results and photos with us.
We have a very captive audience and would love the chance to share the
success of your event with our fans. Please touch base with me as we get
closer to remind me of the specific date of the event so that we know when
to expect your group.

Sincerely,

Billy Graham

I think I will dust off my jig rod and make an appearance for this. Can I assume this will be a draw for partners event? Or do I need to find a ride?

thanks

I believe the ISE show will be in action during this time. So if you wanna come up a day early, or stay for Sunday the show is in Sacramento, part of the reason I choose this weekend for the event. Straight up 99 or I5 as if your going to Oroville, the turn off is somewhere around Marysville. Ill solidify directions as we get a tad closer.

Sean,
Google maps says a 3 hour and 41 minute drive from my house. While I'd probably do it in under 3 hours  It's still a long haul. Got any recommendation for a motel up that way?

And tell Tim there's a set of 100MPH Gore tex rain gear for sale in the Classified Section. Tell him to spend some money so he doesn't get soaked if it rains.

That is why I didn't do part of my recent Vacation there... couldn't find a close enough motel that I knew was safe to park my boat at.

I was thinking of making the daily hump from Oroville but decided to be lazy

Grass Valley has a few nice motels. Just come up the 80 and head across the 49. less then 30 minutes to Bullards. And, there's always a Houseboat rental. Call Billy Graham at Emerald Cove and see if he would do a one or two night rental.

Thanks Terry, I was wondering about the houseboat option myself.

Good morning. Hope you can all make it. Bullards Bar has had a reputation for big spots and they seem to like to chew in the winter time. The chance of a 5lb spot in more then one boat is pretty darn good.

I'm going to try and take the the 21st off. I've never been up to Bullards. I prefer not to have to drive home, so if we can all get in on a houseboat or something to help shave the cost, that would be cool.

I usually sleep in the back of my SUV, but if it rains on that Friday that ain't gonna work.
