The next new innovation in artificial baits
When I first started fishing for bass, seems like yesterday (yeah sure), one of the hot baits out there was the Creme pre- rigged worm..I'll have to admit that I went through quite a few of them, they just flat caught bass..It was my first experience with anything that you might want to call soft plastics..I also got one of the hot Heddon Sonics, one of the first lipless crankbaits made, I think..The one I had was called a "fire tail", it had a flourescent red tail like appendage attatched before the rear treble..Today you see so many new baits come on the market it is difficult to tell which might work, and which don't really stand much of a chance..I know a lot of you swear by the LuckyCraft lures and no doubt they catch fish, but are they really any better at it than any other lure..Myself I kinda like the Bomber A line of baits..I have caught bass with them every where I have tried them..The current trend toward some red on the lure is reminiscent of the lures available in my early years, if it didn't have red on it, I didn't buy it..Of course at that time there weren't all that many that didn't have red on them..Red, white and yellow were the predominant colors for just about any lure..Are we fast running out of new shapes and colors to try..So many of the lures now look alike that sometimes it is difficult to tell exactly what you are using..At times it makes me long for the good old days when you only had a selection of about a dozen lures to tote around with you, if you had that many..Now with all the new lures and products out there you need a well paying job just to attempt to stay up with the Jonses..I am not complaining, but I sure wish I could afford more of them..

Mac,
Sure lucy crafts are great and in many situations they are much better than other baits. Like at clear lake what will outfish a staysee when the bite is on? Nothing that I have herd of. But in other sitations mabey LC's are not better like fishing a OG Bagley in the delta they dont get snagged very bouant but LC also has BDS which is liek a old bagley and works just as good but IMO not any better. I accualy hate the bomber a's because they are snag magnets in the delta and stuff were there is a ton of snaggs I am really only going to use square bill cranks (BB's Speed Traps LC classical Leaders) My thinking is that the next thing in artificials will have something to do w/ lateral line senses like Rick Clunn tred to do, but I think they will have a bait that begs bass to bite. I guess we will find out soon enough.

You can pickup River2Sea
stuff at Extreme Angler in Oakley, Walton's Pond in San Leandro....and I would assume The Hook would have it, though I didn't look last time I was there.

There is also a new company out there called Jackal they are making quite a few interesting new lures. I dont know of any local retailers that carry them but they can be found on the net the "mask" perks my interest.

Re: The next new innovation in artificial baits
river 2 sea already has swimbaits they are called the "bottom walker" they come in a few different sizes and are like a storm swimbait in that the hook and weight is molded into the bait. The detail is very nice on these baits, colors are great, and they swim awesome, just the right tail action.

Tom the masks are ok more of a slow sinker I have a few. The river to sea swimbaits are pretty nice they alos have a bunch of woods baits aswell I will see if I can find the site again. There are quite a few Japanese companies that con compete w/ LC but the prices are all about the same. As for river to seas baits they are almost ALL copies of japan lures there deep suspending jerkbaits your taliking about are a copy of megabass live X

Hey Mac...
...do you still use those creme worms? If not, how come? Yeah, I see things come and things go, and I see lots and lots of people racing to get the next hot bait in the hottest color. I try like hell to keep it simple, and I do a resonable job at that. Occassionally I get caught up in the "gotta have this bait in this color" game, but I try not to. I look back and wonder how certain baits got dropped out of my rotation so to speak, kinda weird how that happens.
I still use white with red head spooks, and I still have my red and white Lucky 13's in the box I fish out of!

I gave up
On the pre-rigged Creme worms, kind of difficult to find them here..I still have my red and white Lucky 13 also, I just have the baby, used to have a tiny, but I lost it on a Delta fish..I replaced the Creme worms with Senkos..To tell you the truth, the Senkos without anything except a hook are as good if not better than the Cremes..At least in my experience they have been..I haven't tried any of the Reaction Innovation lures yet, but it sounds as though I gotta spend some bucks and get me some..I just can't bring myself to spen the big bucks for some of these lures though..That is the penalty you pay for living on a fixed ncome, that isn't large enough to support the bait monkey..I am not saying they aren't worth it, but when you have a choice of 3 of one kind or 1 of another, the three sure take up a lot more space in my tackle box..

Hey RipNRog, next time.......
yer up at ClearLake, stop in and see Bob Higgins, he's got the largest selection of River2Sea swimbaits and ripbaits that I've ever seen!
Re: Hey RipNRog, next time.......
Waltons Pond also has a good selection of both swim baits and rip baits from River2Sea!Cooch wrote:yer up at ClearLake, stop in and see Bob Higgins, he's got the largest selection of River2Sea swimbaits and ripbaits that I've ever seen!

Down fall to river2sea swimbaits
They just dont last very long at all. If you bump bottom or catch one fish they just dont last because of the weight is so close to the bottom ( VERY thin plastic ) it punches through the plastic to easy.(hope they are working on this) They are real close to the Storm baits( or the 99 cent store swimbaits) and the storm baits have more plastic around them. Storm also starts to turn over on a faster retreave. The tail flips and twists to easy on storm. River2sea swimbaits work but dont last. I wish they did. I guess I dont like to have to buy baits every time I go out. It takes 75+ Dollars to go fishing already each time. Gota find some baits that will cut the cost down a bit. (ones that last) oh and work. I guess if a bait is going to fall apart each trip or fish I get I would want 6 to 8 in a pack at that price. like senkos. I guess it is a shame when the bait fails before it even got beat up buy a fish.
