Oil for 2005 225 Optimax

Post by Tobe »

Is there a difference in 2 stroke oils as long as they are TCW-3
If so where can I buy Optimax oil in bulk or a good price?

Will appreciate any input.

Thanks, "Tobe"

I don't know about the optimax. I have a EFI and my mechanic told me that I should use Yamalube ... he said that it's better than any Merc oil.

Mercury has gone back to marketing thier products under the old
Quicksilver brand and now have their Premium Plus oil for the Optimax, DFI and all thier engines as the recommended oil. They no
longer have the premium plus for their engines and the Optimax(
synthetic oil for it). It is TCW3 rated and will work in any of their
engines. Talk with your merc dealer. BIll K

Any name brand oil, with TCW3, will work in any engine. But if you
want to stop any hassell with warranty, stick with the brand oil that your engine is. You take much of the argument re. oil if you can show that all you used was their brand in thier engine. Just a thought. Oil is cheap insurance, so do not short change yourself.

I had been getting mine from the Boat Dock in Fremont. They sell a case of two 2.5 gallon jugs for ~80 or 85. That's 16 or 17/gal. Which is pretty good I thought as there's no question of the quality of oil you're getting.
