4 Cycle Oil

Post by jack65274 »

Anybody use regular motor oil in their 4 cycle outboards? I have a 60hp Merc and need to change oil for first time soon.

In my 4 stroke Merc I ran 10-30 Mobil 1. You might also consider the 10-30 High Mileage Mobil 1 because it has a higher amount of of ZDDP which is a phosphorous extreme pressure additive.

I have a 1999 100 hp Yamaha 4 stroke on my Skeeter Aluminum. I have used Mobil One 10-30 synthetic in it since new. It doesn't use any oil, starts when the key is turned and runs great. I also use Mobil 1 in my trucks and cars with the same great results. It is the best thing you can do to protect your equipment.

I have a 99 Evinrude 4 stroke 70hp. I've always used what they recommend as far as viscosity (I believe mines 5w-40), but use castrol/pennzoil/quaker. Prefer Castrol. Great motor that doesn't burn a drop of oil. Just make sure you use the recommended viscocity and change the filter each time and you'll be fine. Just like a car.
