Are you a licensed guide
Are you a licensed guide
If you are a licensed bass fishing guide on any lake drop me a pm or email at kbrown@surewest.net. I am trying to locate all the licensed guides in the West.

Kent,
The Cal. DFG website has a listing of all the licensed guides in this state.
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/pdffile ... eslist.pdf
The list says "complete" list of guides but there are some notables that are not listed. I am not sure why. I hope this helps a little.

I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

Crawdaddy, The list is not a complete list. When you renew you have a box that you can check to add your name to the list or not.

Re: Are you a licensed guide
Vince,
Just curious why a guide would not put their name on the list. Seems like a little extra advertising and if I was coming in from out of state what better way to find out who the licensed guides were in an area. Just a thought.

Not sure exactly why most don't. Just did my renewal and I checked the box to have it added. It does say that you may only be on the list if you renew by 04-30-2011. Maybe some procrastinate to long on renewing. Or maybe some get recognized so frequently that they are a guide that they don't even renew their license anymore knowing that no one will ever check. who knows

Re: Are you a licensed guide
A lot of Tournament anglers will attain a guides license and start a fishing checking account, to ligitamize their tournament fishing as a business and get past the IRS deeming their fishing as a hobby, hence they my not check that box. I know in the mid 90s, I never filled it in for this reason, at the time, I wasn't guiding part or full time, just to suppliment a few tournaments and back the IRS off of my fishing deductions. For those of us who renew every year, most of the data in Section1 is already filled in, it's very easy to overlook the small next section where it's located, even though ATTENTION APPLICANTS is highlighted, proceeding to Section 2 & 3. I know I've overlooked it a couple times after sending it in early, yet not seeing my name on the list. There has also been times where I did fill it in, yet still didn't make the list.Vince Borges wrote:Not sure exactly why most don't. Just did my renewal and I checked the box to have it added. But quite honestly, over the past 16 years, I've never had one single client tell me they got my name off the DFG's website, nor have I had anyone else ever call me for like a research reason of something like that where they got my name off the State's posted list. The only real benifit for most is folks can do a quick check to see if the potential guide they are looking to hire, is licensed or not. But whether they are on that list or not, you as the customer, can always ask to see the license to remove all doubt.

If they feel like I would. I would want to distance myself from DFG. Plain and simple.. Bill Kcrawdaddy wrote:Vince,

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

Re: Are you a licensed guide
I agree with Cooch. This is my 30th year of guiding and knew about the list but never checked it until a few minutes ago. No client has ever mentioned the list. After 30 years, I am on the list, but I guide for no type of anything! How did I get a blank space for species??!!

Re: Are you a licensed guide
Yeah, I never checked it either but did so on this renewal. Not sure why I never did in the past but figured it can't hurt anything, probably won't help either for that matter!!
