I would size the rod based on the type cover. I would step up to a 734 in moderate to heavy cover and down to 733 for sparse cover. I think the 733 is ideal because it seems to let the bait get a little deeper and therefore better hookset. In reality I don't think it really matters much. Rod length - short rod for casting in tight spots and longer rod for fishing clear water - longer casts.

the 734 is the the best rod i have ever used.I have more than one because it is hard to set it down. I throw almost any kind of bait, usually in the 3/8 to 1/2 ounce range, blades, chatter baits, swim baits, and swim jigs are my favorite for this rod. Dobyns are a little expensive but you get what you pay for.

Fishing a swim jig is like fishing a slow spinner bait, and at times when I drop the jig for the purpose of hoping to get a bite on the fall. Either way I take into consideration where I am fishing. If I am on the delta or clear lake I throw a little heavier power rod. I like seven foot rods. If I am fishing where I don't need to worry about the cover I fish a lighter power rod...like a medium action. I fish all Dobyns Rods and find that you can't go wrong with a seven foot four power rod. If I were to buy one rod it would be 734. If you are on a budget try the Savvy series from Dobyns.

Very well said. The 734C is the most verstile rods we have. I never go anywhere with a pair of them, I just throw so many different baits on them. It would be my choice over a 733C for swimmin jigs. If you're swimming a jig in hvy cover, a 735C is hard to beat too.
