pouring worms & tieing jigs
pouring worms & tieing jigs
I have thought about tinkering with pouring some worms and tieing some jigs for my personal use but really have no idea how either process is done or how I would start, then i thought this is what westernbass is for right? Now im sure i will get some basic responses explaining to me how its done and how to get started wich is appreciated, but i would love to visually see these processes done. As an instructor i know ya cant beat visual or hands on learning. Now im not looking to get anyones "secrets" just to visually see the process done and the tools and materials used to pour and tie. I hope im not comming off as being to forward or crossing some line, Im just trying to find a starting point and really wanting to learn, if ya think ya might wanna help shoot me a PM, thanks in advance
Thats how big fish are caught son!!

Check on youtube, they have some good videos on the basics of jig tying. You will figure out what works best for you after a little trial and error. Make sure to use quality components and tie with braid, or kevlar thread if you need a lot of wraps. I started tying my own a couple years ago and will probably never go back to buying them.
good luck on the jigs, I'm clueless when it comes to pouring plastic.
cheers,
Joey

Lurecraft.com, been using their products for 20 years. Don't fill the pots more than 1/3 when pouring finesse baits. The blood line pot should be 1/5 full for control of the plastic. This all pertains too using the small cheap aluminum pots they sell for about a dollar a piece. Have fun and wear thick pants and long sleeves (less burns). Shorts are a total nono!

If you want/need some molds PM me. I have about 100, some new, some used. I'm getting ready to sell them. I'll make you a great deal on however many you might want. I can send photos and a list of what I have if you give me some notice.

Go to del-mart.com and join there forum. He makes a ton of molds and sells all of the equipment you need to pour any bait. His customer service is second to none and his molds are the best. Once you get a mold if you call him he will walk you through the process.

Re: pouring worms & tieing jigs
I pour a little lead. About 2000# a year. My shop is in my garage, but I have a mill and make or modify allot of molds. Anyway if you want to learn I can show you some tricks. There are some pouring, tying, and powder coat tricks that can save you a few years and high blood pressure. If your near orangevale some time shoot me a PM and I can get you started.
For starters get the lee 20# pot on eBay. I go through about 8 pots a year. Check there for your arkie mold, if not barlows has better prices on do it molds then do it molds does. The mold your looking for is a ARK-3-AY. The ARK-3-AFC is for flat eyes. It has a better tie bar but it doesn't take regular 60degree hooks. Although I can mill it for you.

Take Brambo up on his offer, he has a cool outfit setup in the garage and that boy can tie some awesome jigs

Lurecraft is the place to go for sure! My dad and I have been making baits for the last year and we use these baits almost exclusively now days. We also make our own jigs, double buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. its the most incredible feeling catching a bunch of fish on your own work of art!
