Panic Box - what's in yours?

Post by TheFish »

Topic for the day - Panic Box

Here's the scenario -- you're in a tournament, your prefish pattern has changed and the fish just aren't cooperating with you. The wheels are starting to come off the bus maybe a few missed fish and you're starting to panic. You take a breather, reach into your tackle bag and pull out your panic box -- something that you know will catch fish even under tough conditions & will help you get your head on straight. You could be on any lake fishing for any species of bass & you need to salvage the day.

You reach into your panic box and.... what do you see?

Jack Daniels or a good scotch.

Really good single malts are strictly reserved for better times and conditions. lol

Other than that, I don't have a be-all cure-all.
Conditons, lake structure, and water clarity would all determine what I threw.

If absolutely pressed for a single bait, it would have to be a simple 6" purple worm.
Or a white spinner bait.
Or a black and blue jig..... Or maybe brown....

My panic box:

A few chart shad crankbaits (shallow, med depth and deep diving), a bomber 6A in delta craw, a few rattle baits (take your pick of mfr), a couple lucky craft 78DD rip baits, a couple spinnerbaits, package of 1/8oz dart heads & some nail weights.

In a simple senario:

Bomber Fat A in tennesse shad; white and chartreuse spinnerbait; zoom fluke; black frog; brushhogs; and the good 'ol senko.

if these fail.. pop open a brewsky and sit watch the lady skiers

Spinnerbait - Chart and White, 5" or 6" Watermelon Red senko and a drop shot rig (plastic would depend upon where I was fishing).

Only 3 things in my panic box:

1. 4" Straight tail roboworms in Aarons magic
2. 4" Senkos in Watermelon
3. A craw colored rattle trap

That would be it.

ever seen that device Tommy Lee Jones uses in Men in Black. I gots one . When inline for weigh-in one use and I just pick the fish I want out of each boat behind me, flash once more and ready for weight-in. If you wanna borrow it just give me a weeks notice

Good thing I packed my panic box this weekend as we took 3rd in the JackAZ Team tournament. Seems the only thing we could catch them on was the Panic Box as the jig bite died. My team partner also introduced me to a new item that I've made some room for. Missed 1st place by 0.13 lbs and went from ~8lbs to 10.26lbs with 15 min to go in the tournament. We culled out 2 rats for a 2.5lber and a 3lber within eye sight of the boat ramp.

THIS IS A REALLY COOL TOPIC. I DONT HAVE A 'PANIC BOX' PER-SAY, BUT THE THINGS THAT I WOULD TURN TO IN A PANIC SITUATION WOULD REALLY JUST DEPEND ON HOW THINGS HAD CHANGED. DID IT COOL OFF? DID IT GET WINDY? DID IT GET CALM? DID THE WATER BECOME MORE STAINED OR CLEAR.......ETC. YOU GET THE POINT. I HAVE ALMOST ALL THE TIME THOUGH, TURNED TO SOME TYPE OR VARIATION OF A SENKO, WETHER IT BE WEIGHTED, WEIGHTLESS, WACKY, OR TEXAS RIGGED, BIG AND SMALL. SENKOS. THAT IS WHAT, AND PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL BE, IN MY PANIC BOX. :D

My boat's entire tackle compartment is my panic box!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death.

Pearl white super fluke-slow and subtle.
5in. Watermelon Blk Flake Senko-slow and subtle.
Chartreuce Shad Spinner Bait-Cover water quickly.

If its the dead of winter, add in a dart head.

Any time I am having trouble getting things going I turn to these.
