The new way to swim a jig

Post by fisheryan »

hey guys i'm a very big fan of the swim jig and have caught many big limits on it. I've always used a 1/4 oz. jig but that has been changing. Matt Allen finally put together a video showing the new "California" genre of swim jigs. He's changing the rules on what can be done with a swimming jig. He's using heavy weights with a swimbait trailer to catch some donkey bass. check it out, I hope you learn as much from it as I did.

It is a great technique...some of us saltwater bass guys have been using them for the past 6 or 7 years for Calicos...they work killer in the kelp forrest with 65 lb braid and 20-40lb flouro topshot. 3/4 to 1 1/2 oz is standard....for the largemouth 1/2 to 3/4 has worked best for me...I love throwing it where I would normally throw a spinnerbait if there is no wind. works great

We were usein the salt water size sassy shad back in the 70's and 80's the newer swim baits make for more choices.

Thanks for putting up the Link Ryan, i appreciate it. Its a killer technique, I hope people latch on to it like I have.
I don't know who else does similar things or for how long they silently threw it but I do know that no one was willing to talk about it. The secret is out there now and there's no getting it back. One thing is for sure, they're DEADLY!
I don't fish many tournaments anymore but the ones I have fished the last couple years... these are where most of my kicker fish came from.
