Delta Vessel Assist Question

Post by Vernonn »

Does vessel assist still operate out of Bethel Island?

Who do you call if you break down in the Delta?

Thanks!

If you do a internet search "california delta boat tow", you'll see the towing service on Bethel Island. I was fishing Disappointment Slough near King Island and noticed a boat that offered towing service and stored the telephone number painted on the side of that boat in my cell phone, 209-483-8359. Never had to use it so I don't know anything about it.

Double check your boat insurance as it's on there. I have Farmers and it's $15. If you break down, they have a number you call then they'll contact somebody (Vess Assit ??) to assit you. Suggest give them your cell# and have the service boat call you as the person your calling into is proably back east or midwest. Believe my ins covers up to $500 for assit.
Double check with who you have your boat ins with.

Vessel Assist---800-391-4869 from Bether Island. Unfortunately I have had to use them twice. They are prompt and professional. They take cash or credit card and Boat U.S. towing insurance. If you have another insurance you may have to pay and be reimbursed, I'm not sure about that though. My towes were between $300 and $500 each.

I have them as a + with my insurance, I was fishing this past weekend and they have vessels between the hook line and sinker and sugar barge on piper slough.

One more thing, always carry your cell phone and my partner and I each have one. For safty and emegency it helps to have a buddy's phone for backup. Had to go out once to go help tow my partner in one evening.

I'm a member of Boat USA/Vessel Assist and consider it very cheap insurance. It's like AAA on the water. The annual fee has gone down to $58 per year, unlimited towing. I've used it twice this year already!!

Alternatively, you can use on a per occurrence basis: call them, get towed and billed you each time. The towing charges range based on the distance of tow, but I've seen the charges as high as $700 for a 25 mile tow to $2,000 to get pulled off a rock levy.

You can't beat vessel assit when needed. Difference from AAA is you can use your membership on your car, wife or friend as long as your there. With vessel assit, I've been told it's for your boat only . With your coverage on your boat ins policy, more than likely you'll have to pay and file a claim with your ins company for refund.
So far I have been fortunate not to need help on the water. Broke down once in Folsom and lucky it was a calm day as I had to go about 3 miles back to the ramp on my trolling motor. Afew bass boat pass by by offer no assit even with my motor trim up and I was out in the middle of no where. A ski baot did stop to se if I needed any help but I was within 200 yd of the ramp.
