Battery Problem

Post by buddy brown »

One of my trolling motor batteries (Optima Blue top 27) is having some issues. There is a little melting around the positive post and the middle fuse in the series popped. What could cause those wires to become hot enough to melt that area around the post. Thanks

a couple things it could be... in all likelihood it isnt ur battery but the TM circuit. What voltage TM do u have?? what amp is the fuse that popped? The melting is obviously from heat produced somewhere in ur circuit. that is caused by too much current flowing (ex. a short circuit), or a bad connection (crimped or butt connection becoming corroded.

I once had a similar issue when i had to come across a lake using only my TM as my crankin engine died. The constant TM use created heat in a corroded connection that I had, and actually started a small fire in my boat. suck.

if ur fuse popped i think it will be a short since they blow when they see too much current.

i would examine all connections and maybe rewire any sketchy areas. good luck!!
