Senko line choice?

Post by Salcone »

Since line-watching is so important in fishing Senkos it would stand to reason a floating line would be easier to watch but being a sinking bait a sinking line would also seem appropriate...what is your opinion on which scenario trumps the other? Go mono? Or go fluoro? Or go braid with fluoro leader?

Thanks!

depends on the scenario and what type of water/structure your fishing. for a lake and open water I fish 10lb vicious pro elite fluorocarbon, for thicker vegetation i opt for a heavier fluorocarbon line size and if it's stained water and I can get away with it, I will throw it on braid.

Woody's got it right... here on the Delta I usually fish wacky 5" and 6" on 10# flourocarbon, and the 7" on braid flipping into the tule pockets as far back as I can get it.

You don't need floating line - flourocarbon has the 'tell" just fine... watch for the line to jump, move, or all of a sudden be somewhere other than you thought it should be and set the hook! Just remember, if they have it long enough to swim off with it, they probably have it deep and you may want to refrain from a TV hookset so you don't hurt the fish.

Tunaman covered it... For me Flouro works good when applicable, but before Flouro came out I have used Pline CX Premium with awesome results. Its flourocarbon coated and low memory with good knot strength and abrasion resistant and half the cost. I like the 3,000 yard spools...45.00-54.00 depending on line test...

Just spray some Bang on your Senko, that way no matter what line you are fishing you will be just fine..
You could even eat a sandwich and come back and they will still be on there..
