Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
personally I won't even consider a rod with foam, I only like cork grips.
Unrealted to that, is it just me or do these pop up ads really suck!

Handles don't matter, it's all in your head. I love my Cumara's.
And yes, these frickin pop up ads are a pain in the ***, very annoying.
If I want something to jump into my face, I'll ask the wife if she's gaining weight.

I agree with dave, it in your head and my cumaras are the sh**. Why wouldn't you want a split grip? When is you hand in the middle of the handle?
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
i don't let those things bug me when I am fishing, i have bigger worries. How heavy is the rod and sensitivity. I love the split grips myself...lightens the rod a bit.
I see they dropped the price on the new Curado G's. that's a pleasant surprise for sure! I was thinking it would go up again...

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
im mostly disapointed in the curados, citcas and the chronarchs..... the citca's look exactly like the chronarchs... black and white color... horrible... they remind me of the crappy caenan that came out last year... nothing improved, same reels but different colors ?? and were on the " g " series ? what happened to the " f " series... i guess the " f "is for they f*cked up.... i wish i would have bought more of the " e " series, when they were clearing them out... sorry to say i wont be buying ANY shimano reels this year... any one have a 50e for the $129 price when they were blowing them out for the " new " reels... shimano you blew it this year
the price is cheaper, but so is the quality... very sad..

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
i'm happy to see shimano come with a lefty 5 ratio reel.. whats the weight on those thing
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
Split grips are in and what is selling. Good quality cork is expensive and hard to find.
Why anyone pays a premium price for trendy rod designs verses functional high quality rods designs, to save a a few grams of weight , is the question.
Everyone by now knows Shimano owns Loomis and the Shimano rod line is better suited for high volume discount discount houses than local pro shops.
Being Oldschool I prefer holding the rod by the reel and fore grip; no rod is more sensitive than running the line over a finger. The split grip doesn't bother me, no fore grip does!

FYI, it is all about weight, and senstivity. EVA is much lighter and more sensative, and for those who do not know.
Crucial is now built on a Cumara blank
Compre on a Crucial blank
and Clarus on a Compre blank.
ALL with a LIFETIME over the counter warranty. Aslo, Shimano doesn't just make changes to make changes. Most of the changes made were to satisfy customer requests, as well as input given by retailers.
Does any compnay always get it 100% right? Nope, but at least Shimano makes the effort, and I'm sure they'll appprediate all of the response, both the good and the critical.

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
Couldnt agree more, cant beat the new compre series for reaction sticks at that price point. As for wormin/jigs ill stay with glx/nrx, was really hoping they would come out with a few more 7'6"+ nrx sticks... I know there are a bunch of other great rod companies out there, but the great service and quick warranty program will keep me a shimano/loomis fan for sure.DanIsaac wrote:FYI, it is all about weight, and senstivity. Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
Bummed on the cheaper chronarch
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
I hear the new reels are being made out of Malaysia now. Wonder if that's going to affect the quality?
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
well atleast now i have an excuse to buy only loomis haha thanks for this input so far
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
yes Curado, and Citica will be made in Shimano owned and operated facilities located in Malaysia.
As for the quality, the prototypes we've fished have been awesome. Extremely smooth, and great castability. We were all greatly impressed.
Time will tell, but Shimano I can assure you will hold QC at the highest levels.
Malaysia is not what it once was. This global mfg boom, and the fact that this is a Shimano owned facility with their own QC will IMHO insure the quality is kept at the highest level.

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
what a great company shimano is. Always changing their stuff to stay one step ahead of the game. Another thing the their customer service, it kicks ***. Went down to their Irvine location today for a few warranty's. NO question's asked. Also they gave me some need parts for some reels. Love shimano!
Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
One more thing, not necessarily Shimano, but many "cork" handles (Lamiglass) are really only a paper thin cork laminate glued over a compressed particle cork.
I found this out when the laminate came off my handle and I felt kinda ripped off that the "cork" handle was a deception.
Like buying an oak desk, only to have the oak laminate peel off to reveal a particle wood desk.

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
I like EVA better than cork. The new Curado is a aluminum frame caenan and the crhonarc is the current Curado with a new paint job , it is the EXACT reel.

Re: WHAT IS SHIMANO THINKING!!!!!
Just take a rod that has a full cork grip and weigh it against a rod with split EVA grips. Youll be surprised how much lighter the EVA rod is. For someone with carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetic neropathy in both hands weight is a big deal.
Good cork is hard to get and is getting very expensive as compared to EVA. I pay roughly 3.00 for EVA split grips. The full cork runs me about 10.00 I also like the split grips as I can add some marbling or graphite weave in the split area.
