Power Pro & Alum Oxide guides

Post by The Bui »

Do you guys ever use power pro on rods with alum oxide guides? Im just wondering how they hold up. What about hardloy? I think alconite and up will be fine with them but the Clarus rod i got it on has power pro spooled up.

I've been building rods for about 8 years now. Hardloys are fine with braid...I've been using them on my own rods and have had 0 problems when using braid. I've never tied the alum oxides but I hear they will not be affected by braid.

A common misconception

Post by Andy Giannini »

I was farting around with braids with BPS oxide guides and found them cut! But they really were not. What can happen is the wrap cement travels down the foot and bleeds down into the center of the guides were the line goes. Because its clear anglers assume the guides have been cut. A good hard thumbnailing and the cement popped right off the guides. Had I just been using mono, this would have not been discovered. It is in my opinion many so called cut guides were never cut at all. Just the cement that made its way into the guides. Of course, there will be examples to prove this theory wrong. :D
