We will try...First the questions
From shore or boat...Bass / trout....are you experienced or looking for major help? Been there before? When Last? topwater early for bass 3-4 colors for trout switch to 7 colors after 8 in morning while trolling the mouth areas of the major coves In,out repeat ..... bass unless experienced forget the largemouth unless VERY early Or LATE....Let us know your vital satistics....and we will tailor the response..

Cachuma
I took a grandpa and a couple kids up today. Weather great but no one reporting bass. Kelly's summation is great but add trolling along bouy line by dam.

Always troll the bouy lines!!!
anywhere that you find the bouys you troll as tight as you dare.....The chains hold Bait along with other toothy critters
I like to troll the bouys woth seven colors moving along pretty quick with a chrome black back Blue eyed 1/3 oz floating Rattling Rouge. 10 pound 40 foot leader of cheapy flourocarbon " Yozuri " ....use a snap. As you cruise the bouys toward Clarks at it's mouth is a seamount kindof affair and I get as tight to the bouys as possible and swing a tight arc right where I think I can get those baits over the very center of the mouth of the cove and then come out again.... The baits kindof slow up a bit and then rocket away ...I have taken my best trout of the summer in years past right at this time of year....I was moving the boat along at a speed that was just under max for that bait....Speed makes 'um stupid
Chunky fish full of Bass fry
I just wonder which spieces eats more of the other!

Re: lake cachuma help
sorry I wasnt very specific, most of my fishing willl probably be from shore. I'll more than likely fish for both trout and bass. And for my skills...................... I am probably the worst, or unlucky, fisher in the entire world, a good day for me would be catching one fish. most of my trips I usually come home with nothing. about 90% of my fishing trips are at cachuma but I still need help. i was there last weekend and caught nothin, so I obviously need any help.
Thank You

Okay...Here is what you do
Go to the marina and get the power bait that they recomend and they can sell you a prerigged set up that includes the sinker and hook for a floating bait rig . leave the marina area on foot and walk over to were the bouy line that incircles the marina meets the shore on your right. This means you will have to go past the launch ramp by best possible means you will end up on a little bluff of rock that sticks out a bit and . You will need to roll the bait in a ball and push your little treble hook into the ball ...Just enough bait to hide the hook. Cast staight out about 45 feet or so so that your out past the shore obstructions. Prop rod up on forked stick and leave a slight bow in line of about 2 feet....Fish that eat power bait usually swallow the hook so do not swing to set the hook...as the fish swims away pickup the now starting to bend rod and start reeling. Try to keep the shorline obstructions in mind as you tire the fish pull him to your predetermined landing area and repeat four more times
As for bass get a stay at home type of bait like a topwater popper and fish the edges of grasslines and next to all available structure and across points with a slow presentation....Most of the guys in boats don't spend nearly the time it sometimes takes to get a topwater bite as they are moving down the bank looking for a reaction bite....If you wait them out you will do fine. I won a tournament last year in the area just outside of the marina on the left side but because of the water elevation and the amount of walkable bank that area won't work for you. Talk to the dock kids about the better spots to walk for bass...as there are more than a few and they can help you out....The long haul is the spot known as outhouse point...That area is best for you as you can fish both species right there. Really deep water with a point and shallow water that you could fish right next to it. I hope this helps. See Ray it wasn't that hard!

thanks.... that helps alot!

Cachuma
Great stuff here for Cachuma. That spot to the right of the marina yielded 2nd place for the Trout Derby a few years ago. (my Stepdaughters), I did "less well". LOL!
I see folks drift fishing off the dam also. Facing the dam, 5 bouys out from the left, redworm about 30 ft deep - more or less.
There is a pretty good point at the end of the RV park but don't know if it's good now. Has been at times and easily walkable. A pleasant place to soak bait anyway.

I can't for the life of me name that cove...
Find out for us older more senile nutcase types
and we would be grateful.
