The 10th Annual Snag Proof Open topped its attendance in 2011 with a 175 boat turnout on the California Delta for the Frog Only tournament.
The 350 fishermen returned to the docks of Russo's Marina on Saturday for the day of the two-day event with limits that were surprisingly low. As the first three flights weighed the big fish contenders on the scales didn't break 5-lbs and the pro side lead was held by 9-lbs; until a 12-lb finally came to the scale.
The last three flights and the extra fishing time on the water appeared to change the game. Two bag limits began to emerge, a 7-br showed followed by a couple of 8's. Steve Riggs and Steve Chappell hold Big Fish after day one with this 8.56.
Dave Newton and Marc Young are in second with their 8.28.
The first and only three bagger came in from fishing partners Ron Howe and Dan Wells. At the official end of the first day, they held the lead with 17.15 for their limit of three fish.
Cooch, like many hada tough day on the water. Expecting a better bite in the morning he said, "We are tickled we brought in what we did." He and his partner are still in it with 8.56 to build on.

Re: Snag Proof Open Day One
I really would love to come down for this tournament next year; too bad it always falls in the middle of our best frog bite up here! Looks like a lot of fun!
