Friends don't let friends fish for catfish Ralph...........
........At least at Casitas
...It's been tough. I've been off the lake for 8 weeks and last Saturdays 109 degrees in the shade was my first trip back. Nothing to write up other than you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink ...I caught a few but shied from plastics and stayed with stuff I wanted to catch fish on. With no fog the reaction bite was just hauling water....stick with tried and true plastic baits and try to understand that your friend isn't going to be able to fish catfish very effectively with you moving the boat around with that trolling motor
The bass and redear bites remain fair, not bad, not good, but still fair. There has been a decent topwater or reaction bait bite most mornings, and then a pretty fair bite on plastics or nightcrawlers after the topwater action in deeper water from eight to 25 feet. Shaun Flaherty, Oakview, landed a six-pound bass on a nightcrawlers, while Matt Weatley, Oakview, had a five pounder on a plastic worm. Not many big fish, but good volume on the two to three pounds class fish. Most of the redear are showing on nightcrawlers in three to 12 feet of water and they are running up to 1-8 or better. Other species are mostly slow with the trout bite for deep-water trollers tough but the few fish coming in are all around three pounds and fat. Few reports on catfish, but Bob Palmer, Fillmore, landed an 11-8 catfish on mackerel, while Bruce Butler, Fillmore, had a 9-12, also on mackerel on Wednesday this week in the dam area.

Thanks Kelly, Glad to hear you have your boat back now.I'm still undecided to leave the lake due to the cost of gas
My son is playing football now, so my Sat. are going to be busy for the next two months. I swear, not being able to fish for two weeks really feels like a month. Thanks for your info. See you on the water!
