Arizona Fishing Report - September 9, 2011

Post by The Hook Up Tackle »

Here is an update on fishing conditions for anyone heading out this weekend:

Lake Pleasant: Largemouth have been spotty, but cloudy days have produced several 20+ pound limits over the last couple of weeks. This weekend is supposed to be a little stormy, so look for the fish to be active. Topwater (Gunfish, buzzbaits, etc) and dippers have been the best baits while the sun is away, and flippin has produced some nice ones when the sun comes out. Keep your eye open, as the lake is dropping faster than the buoys are getting moved, and there are a lot of obstacles just below the surface. Look for steep banks with wood as the best bet.

Roosevelt Lake: Fishing has slowed a bit for most, but some guys are punishing them over structure and in shallow water. Several good bags of fish have come on frogs this week in the backs of the river channels, so keep an eye out for that bite. Structure has still been the most consistant, with 15-20 feet being key. Slow rolled spinnerbaits and big worms have been the best bet. Look for channel bends, they have been the key.

Saguaro Lake: A mix of topwater and dropshot is the way to go here. Look for fish chasing bait early and late, and then slwo down and fish shade pockets late in the day. Fishing has still been decent as long as you can dodge the jet skis.

Have fun this weekend and be safe!

+1 on the unmarked shoals. Ate up a prop outside Bass Bay and not a buoy within 50 yards.Went from 12 to 1 ft in a blink. Be careful out there. Good thing I was idling.
