OBVIOUSLY IF YOU HAVE READ MY POSTS I AM INTO FISHING HEAVEY STRUCTURE. I LIKE THROWING INTO THE STUFF!!!....I AM JUST CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT SET UPS YOU GUYS OWN, HOW MANY YOU OWN, AND WHY? I AM THINKING ABOUT HAVING ANOTHER FLIPPING STICK ONE WITH 20LB TEST AND ANOTHER WITH 25 LB FOR THE EXTRA EXTRA HVY STUFF.........IS THIS NESSACARY? I GOT A PITCHING STICK AND LOVE IT.....
i also read a article about gary klein . when he moved out of california he stated he had 5 flipping rods laid out on his deck for a period of time..........i wonder y? do u guys think this was only due to spring time or something.......
I have 5 flipping sticks. I usually do not have all 5 on the deck at the same time though. I use curado 100B’s w/50# braid. I like having different size weights or hooks on each stick. Having 5 is a luxury that saves me time. I think you can get away with 2-3 good flipping sticks. I am using the Loomis BCFR954 7’ 11â€
I also have at least 6 flipping sticks, but normally have two to three out at any one time. I use both braid and flourocarbon on my flipping sticks, so therefore I often have similar baits tied to two different rods. I like to have braided line for weeds and tules and the flourocarbon for rocky banks.
My choice for flipping sticks is none other than the Kister LTA rod in the 7'11" model. It's the finest flipping stick I've had the pleasure of owning.
Having the same make and model for rods and reels makes sense. You don't have to get reaquainted with a setup because they'll all be the same. My choice for reels is the (older) Castaic 200.
Take a look at the Lamiglas XFT 806. Might take awhile to get used to the length, but is a great rod for flipping, and I also use it for a frog rod at times. Price is reasonable also.
I carry four flipping sticks St Croix and Fenwick with abu gracia 4600 reels three left handed models and one right handed models. and they are all rigged with different lines and baits.
two with 65lb braid for grass and weeds
one with 20lb flourcarbon for jigs
one with 25lb flouroclear that I use with tubes
at any given time I'll have two on the deck depending on what type of cover and structer I'm fisihing.
