Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
I use the Diawa Mega Force THS with the twich bar. This has been the best reel for me when flippin and pitchin because of the twich bar you don't have to pop your rod up to move the bait you just keep your rod down when you get a bump you don't have to reel down to pickup line you just set the hook which help my catch ratio and the real is only $90.00
Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
I tried the quantun 860 on my dobyns ....liked the combo so much i bougth 2 more and you can buy extra spools and switch form braid to fluro by changing them or swaping the spool.
it also has a switch on side that allows you to press and release. as soon as you release the bar the spool locks...saved me a couple time when they took it fast.
if you need the exact model just let me know. some you can change the spool some you cant so be aware. and it was 69-79.00. looking to put them on most of my rods. guess i didnt realize how much i liked them

Hands down, curado201 e7
Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
The Shimano Curado e7 has really impressed me since its been out. I have yet to find an application that the E series doesnt excel at.

Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
What about the Core MGFV? Has anyone given that a try? I was considering it recently. I have two flippin' sticks, use them very rarely, but want to more this year. I currently have two 766 Powell flippin' rods each with the Curado 200DHSV. They feel like a small Sherman Tank in my hand, but I feel confident I have enough reel when setting the hook.
But, I recently put a Core 100MG in my hand.........and it is LIGHT!!!! The FV is the "flippin' version." I'd like to hear some opinions before dropping 3 bills.
Thanks

I flipped with the MGFV and blew one bearing but fixed by FW. Now, nothing beats a 200e... Used for punching and flipping, well worth the money!!! Just my 2 cents...
Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
I use the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Signature Series reel. Today they're re branded as the Carbon Black. Smooth and powerful for practically any flipping condition I've encountered.bayscotter wrote:Looking for a new flippin' reel. Currently use Abu. Under $200

Revo. I love shimano, all i use pretty much. but the revo gets the dirty duties. the drag on the E7 isnt strong enough for punching. IMO. have had a lot of drag slip when throwing the curado for punching/flipping. The revo handles it no problem, with no drag slip.
Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
E7 all day!!! If you want something reliable and that will last, its a no-brainer.

I've punched numerous 8, 9, and one 10 with my e7 No drag problems at all. Plus the fact that u can find em here on w.b. classifieds and eBay for 120 to 140 for one hell of a reel.

Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
This is the real i use for flippin and pitchin and its the bomb digitty - cast smooth, no switching hands, and quick retrieve, just have to fish it slower. Pair it up with a Dobyns 765 flip stick and you have one of the best outfits out there.yjjustforme wrote:Hands down, curado201 e7
Prior to the Curado E7201 i used the Shimano Castaic 201 this was a good reel with the thumb bar, but truth be told i used the thumb bar more when dragging then when flippin

I've used various ABU 4600s for years, the past 16 months I've become very fond of the ABU Record RCN50, 6.3:1 and 4x the line capacity of any low profile reel incase ya wanna use it deep. All fer $139. I'm very comfy with the round reels, if yer a low profile kinda angler, that Revo Toro is a brute reel too.

Re: Flippin' reel suggestions
i like the core mgfv for flipping but for all my dirty work that involves 50 to 80lb braid i am using my shimano castaic sf reel. I got 7 castais sf and 2 scorpins sf with the flip bar. I love these reels!!

Curado/Chronach E200 or E50. I personally prefer the 50 as you do not need the 200 size spool if your just flippin or pitchin, and the smaller frame will be even more rigid than the larger 200.
