What type of jigging spoon

Post by MB916 »

Looking to go purchase some jigging spoons at Fishermans Wharehouse to use this weekend. Haven't tried sponning for bass yet and just looking for some suggestions on what brand and size to get. Also, Do you guys mainly fish them vertically, I know some guys fish them like a texas rigged worm.

Since your going to Fishermans I will give you several ideas. For straight up and down jigging get the P-Line minnows in white chrome and chartreuse chrome, and some Hopkins Spoons! Both in 3/4 & 1oz. For casting and jigging get some flutter spoons and the DUH spoons! Both have a wider profile. Cast them out and work them in a sweep and fall type motion! Have fun, this time of year you can load the boat with spoons. There are all kinda and colors on the market, this is just a keep it simple starting point.

I use Bass Pro Shops Strata spoons 99% of the time. It's similar looking to a Hopkins. I've used these spoons for years and I do quite well. I use 1/2oz & 3/4oz. I do have other spoons, but the Strata spoon is my #1 choice. I fish them all year around whenever I find some structure and depth. I change the hooks and add a split ring at the top.
