Izzy Smallies

Post by TeamBeefmaster »

Did a lil poking around... didnt realize there were smallies in Izzy, let alone a reported 5.75lb hawg. New to the lake and all I have seen are the green and whiskered type. Anyone caught em up there?

If you are talking about Lake Isabella, yes there are small mouths in the lake but they are not often caught.most are in the lower river and only run a pound or two.

I've never seen one caught from the lake, but I've seen a couple of pictures. I've even seen a mounted spotted bass that was claimed to have been caught in Isabella. If either of those species were to gain a real foothold, they could wipe out one of California's best big-bass lakes. And yeah, the lower river is full of smallies, but they're mostly rats.

I've been fishing Isabella since late 1979 and yes, there are smallmouth in the lake. The thing is that you dont see them very often. I remember when I first started fishing there they were plentifull. Lately they seem to go in spurts, every few years you catch a few then you dont see them for a few years. I remember a few years back we got 4 of them in one day, biggest was right at 3 pounds, havent seen any since so they are due anytime now
