SIGN UP NOW - California Bass Silent Society Needs YOU!

Folks, it is time once again for anyone available to step up and help out with the annual CalBASS deaf youth anglers event!

For those who were involved last year, they were richly rewarded for spending time with these deaf children, and children of deaf parents. For those who weren't, or aren't familiar, this is an annual event put on by CalBASS in conjunction with the Northern California Deaf Campers organization where these hearing-challenged families conduct a campout and fishing excursion so that these wonderful families can enjoy the outdoors and waterways. Last year, they selected the California Delta as their destination and engaged Cooch to assist with coordinating volunteers to provide boats and guide services for these lovely young people.

This year, they have selected Tower Park Marina as their destination, scheduled for June 15th through the 17th, and we will be charged with providing bass fishing services on June 16th. Details are only in the planning stages, but we will likely look to meet up together on the morning of the 16th and caravan on the water to Tower Park Marina, where we will take groups of children out in the area to try to catch some fish.

Here is a link to the thread from last year's event:

Please, PLEASE consider helping out this year if at all possible... you won't regret it!

Count me in Roger. That was the best time I had on the water last year. How do we sign up? I will bring it up to my club and should be able to get some boats.

We're still a little ways off and in the planning stages. As we get more solidified in the activities and the program for the day, we'll get the sign up details out for participation. Like last year, we'll need support from both boaters and non-boaters. This turned out to be quite an amazing event working with these kids last year and we are very excited that CalBASS has come back and asked us to help em out again this year. Please do plug that June 16th date onto yer calanders and we'll keep ya updated on our progress with this group.

Hello Fishin' Folks

I personally want to thank you all for your continued support for Deaf youth fishing. For people who didn’t come last year, I am very sorry to say that you have missed out on the fun! This program was really the first of its kind in California. There are a lot of events for kids or special needs kids, but none of the adults are fluent in sign language. We provide access of communication where Deaf kids will not feel any barrier. http://www.calbass.org/

I thought you would want to know there is a fundraiser event on March 31st. Marcucci's Deaf Sturgeon Challenge (deafanglers.org) was originally established to bring deaf children and adults together from all over for a fun and exciting day out on the water with some of our fantastic local fishing guides that work hard and try to put some of these prehistoric hard-fighting sturgeons on the lines for these contestants to witness! After 4 successful years of having this derby, we decided to make the derby's BIG 5th anniversary open to the public this year as a fundraiser to help raise money for CalBASS Deaf Youth Fishing Program. We want to help continue educating and taking deaf children from all over on fishing and camping adventures. Many of these children will remember these trips for the rest of their lives. CalBASS is a non-profit organization with 501c3 status.

There are several ways to support CalBASS. First, you can register & fish for sturgeon derby on March 31st. Information can be found at http://www.deafanglers.org. Second, buy your raffle tickets on-line or contact me at leroyjr@calbass.org to arrange a place to meet. Raffles ticket to buy on-line is at http://www.deafanglers.org/index.php/bu ... ts-on-line. Fourth, if you have anything that you want to donate, please let me know. Last, you can always donate on-line at http://www.calbass.org.

Trust me; you don’t want to miss these amazing prizes.

OK gang - I put together a sign-up form and we need to start getting an idea of who is going to be able to help out.

If you can attend as a boater, please take a moment and use the link in the first post to sign up so that we can gauge how many boats we will be able to count on. If you are tentative, please sign up and select the appropriate check box so we can keep everyone up to date on the planning.

Thanks in advance!

Time for the folks to step up here and get involved - we're getting close and need a bunch of folks to jump in and sign up PLEASE? We only have a few sign-ups so far, and need a bunch more boaters to make this a success! You won't be disappointed, as this is the feel-good event of the season for sure!

Please sign up if you are able?

We are still looking for at least 6 more boaters and any other onshore helpers for next weekend's Cal BASS event up at Tower Park on Saturday June 16th. It's a chance for us to introduce fishing and touch the lives of these kids. Some are deaf, some are kids of deaf parents. The task is simple, we show up at 7:00am at the Tower Park docks, take kids out two at a time during two sessions and are done by 1:00pm. You don't need to know sign, for fishing, has a universal sign language all it's own that these kids understand. We were all amazed and had a ball with em last year. Please contact me directly or sign up through Rogers link at the top for more details.
