Tackletour just did a review. Check that out for details. I still love the E's better but I don't have one to make a real world comparison. Don't think I ever will.

Yes, I have. If everyone were able to fish one of these things they'd be surprised as well.
They perform amazingly well, and outcasted the E in our fieldtests. However, they are not an E, but will definately fish right with it.

Some have complained about the feel at the counter, and I agree there is a vibration that can be felt when spinning it empty. What you are feeling is the anti-reverse assist, which is reduced when the spool is loaded with line. That or you can have it removed. This makes an even bigger improvement.

I just performed two such tune-ups on brand new reels and they now FLY! Not even a bearing uprade, just a bearing flush and tune.

I'd wait for the special promo $avings coming in 2 weeks, then pull the trigger!

Sorry if everyone already knows but why did shimano discontinue the E series?

They didn't. It's now called Chronarch.

Consumers, and retailers alike were all asking for a quality, price point reel, and a less expensive Chronarch. Then with the terrible exchange rate hit and the dollar being so weak, it was either raise the price or re-engineer Curado. Thus, we now have the G series Curado, and the less expensive Chronarch option.

i.m.h.o.. they never should have went cheap or cater to the lower end market. this is what shimano was known for. you always had the option to purchase " cheaper reels " citca for example. but why lessen the quality of the curados and call them chronarchs. these new chronarch will never compare to the "b" or "d" series. they feel cheap, and look crappy. i will stick to the "e" series curados, and just keep all my older chronarchs, love the 50mg, and the d7 best. but it looks like i wont be buying any shimanos for a while... sorry dan ?

Does anyone know if the new chronarchs are identical to the old E series curados just a different color and name plate? Or are there differences between the 2?
