Re: NEW! Lowrance Structure Scan 2 / LSS-2
I've used Lowrance for years....lots of years....
I am now done with them. Gen 2, LSS 2, all at a cost. If your loyal customer bought your high priced product. And I'm talking about buying retail, not a Lowrance VIP purchase or pro-staff discount. Instead of offering an update for the HDS 10 with LSS they want you to buy the new HDS 10 GEN2 and LSS 2 and find someone who WHAT? (A) doesn't understand the advantages of the new technology, (B) Isn't aware of the new features.... something like that to buy your old unit???

RadTB,
The new LSS 2 is compatible with the Gen 1 HDS units. If you already has LSS then you can just get the new transducer to take advantage of the greater range and some increased detail.
If you bought a new TV and next week they came out with a better newer unit we just accept it as part of the normal process. Lets face it by the time you got your new computer home it was almost out dated. It is just that technology is moving so fast nobody can or should try to keep up with it.
When it is time to buy, commit, purchase, and enjoy until you decide it is time to upgraded.

Re: NEW! Lowrance Structure Scan 2 / LSS-2
ACRon is right. There is nothing wrong with the HDS Gen 1 and LSS-1 at all. They work great. Lowrance is continuing to strive to push the technology to the next level. With each new release are improvements, new features, faster speeds, etc. Just because there is a new model coming out doesn't mean that you are obligated to purchase it. We want everyone on this forum to learn as much as they can about the Lowrance technology so they will be able to get out of their electronics what they expect. The technological curve will continue to grow. As electronic parts improve what was the top of the line last year is not this year. This means that last year's top of the line stuff is cheaper this year but preforms just as good as it did last year when everyone wanted it.
Make a choice when to upgrade, purchase the product, learn how to use it for more enjoyment and fishing success and watch the next few generations of improvements come along. Eventually you will be able to upgrade again, skipping some of the generations in between. When you do buy a few years later there will be even more improvements after that and the process will continue. Every generation of new product will be an upgrade for guys out there who have been waiting for the right time to do so for them. Then they will use those units until they deem it necessary for whatever personal choice that it's time to upgrade again.
Please don't be upset because Lowrance is pushing technology forward. I think we will all be very impressed with the electronics of the future that are on the drawing boards today.

AC and Ken
Thanks for your input and thank you for reading my opinion. Again that's all we each have is an opinion. I also have a Humminbird unit that I bought when SI came out (long before Lowrance offered anything comparable). Yesterday I received another email from Humminbird notifying me of the new "software update" and its features. I can assure you that many of the feature updates Johnson Outdoors provides to its Humminbird customers at no charge are very similar to the "features" that Lowrance customers have come to accept as "technology improvements". Furthermore, call Lowrance tech support and tell them you have a problem with one of there products...I did recently and was told if the model could have been purchased new more than five years prior that I would need to produce a receipt to show it was less than fives years or it would not be repaired at all? I spoke to Linda, called back and got Mike, he confirmed this.
I am very much aware of technology and the ever changing environment. I work in the medical industry and service CT and video intedration equipment.
Again we all have an opinion and are entitled to voice our opinion. Good fishing and good luck selling you "old technology" when you decide there's something better.

Re: NEW! Lowrance Structure Scan 2 / LSS-2
I agree with RadTB. I just bought a GenII HDS10 and returned it cause I found out a new structure scan was coming. I almost installed the older structure scan but decided to wait. Spoke with customer service about new one coming out and was discouraged by lack of knowledge by rep of their own product. My issue with Lowrance and Humminbird is that information received via 1-800 customer service is pretty close to 90% inconsistent.
On the other hand, keeping up with high tech will always put a HUGE hole in your wallet. I used to work in marketing/advertising. Marketing products is very strategic. Gotta know when to release a product. Take a look at the iPhone craze! For all we know, iPhone 5,6,7,8 etc is already on the waiting line to be released.
If you're the type that wants to stay on top of things or have that cutting edge advantage, no doubt, you will spend more every year. If you don't care, and make the most of what you have, it'll relieve a lot of stress and frustration.
I'm back to where I started. StoneAge technology! Lol

Re: NEW! Lowrance Structure Scan 2 / LSS-2
A Lowrance HDS Gen2 will work with either an LSS-1 or LSS-2. There is no need to "return" the HDS unit. You will need it wether you purchase a Lowrance Structure Scan-1 or 2.
Lowrance Customer Care is very well trained but the LSS-2 is not out yet and won't be available until mid April sometime so to expect them to have all the answers is a little premature. Patience is a virtue.
