Kid's fisihing derby

My kid's went to a Catfishing derby this last Saturday at Fishermen's Bend Trailor Park near Newman, Ca on the San Joaquin River. A local fishermen got together a bunch of local merchants and planted 1500 lbs of catfish in the park pond (50 of them over 10 lbs) it was free to kids up to 12 years old. It was great seeing a lot of kids who have never fished before catching fish. It was all catch and release with volunteers netting fish and recording fish by length. There were over 30 fish caught that were 24" or better. Three new bikes were given away for Biggest, most and smallest fish. Also there must have been 20 fishing poles, tackle boxes and other gifts given away. All kids got a free t-shirt and soda and cookies at the end of the derby. I would like to thank Joe Enos for putting such a great event together. It is people like him that make fishing what it is. 86 kids participated. Once again thank you Joe for a great day.
