HDS 8 gen 2 structure scan problems

Post by Red »

Ken,
The structure scan worked perfectly for about a month and then quit showing depth and structure. I have it mounted on the similar place that most bass boats have them mounted and as I said it was working great. Now it appears to start but all I get is a small dark line that starts and then stops about ½ inch in on the top right side. If you need it I will try to take a picture and send it to you. The one question I do have is that I run this off my starting battery and see that the voltage goes down pretty quick when using the structure scan. Will the structure scan auto shut down when the voltage goes below a certain number?

I don't think this is a battery issue with the explanation of the symptoms. I would inspect the transducer cable to make sure there are no kinked or pinched spots. Make sure the motor or jack plate is not hitting the ducer cable. Next inspect the connections into the module (black box) and then from the module to the unit itself. Make sure they are tight without any water intrusion problems. Then if you don't find anything and the display issue still exists then I would have you call Lowrance Customer Care at 1-800-324-1356 to see if they can help.

Ken and the reading public,

I started the trouble shooting tree with the removal of my transducer and the structure scan module. i took them over to a buddies that has a HDS setup and disconnected his transducer and mine worked fine! I then had him disconnect his module and connect mine, we found the problem.. My structure scan box is not working. Do I need to send everything back or can I just send the box back?

I have just installed structure scan & worked great for 15 min. Then it's like it reads bottom but only 1.5 ft. Deep & black screen under. Does this in 30 ft. Swapped out module with a new one, same thing happened again, about 10 min worked great then back to 1.5ft in 30ft & black screen under. Do I have a setting wrong? Bad transducer? Any help much appreciated.

Default settings should work right out of the box. The LSS-2 module/black box has it's own power cord. Make sure you have a 3 amp inline fuse in the hot wire. This will insure you aren't getting a power surge or something that may be knocking out the box. Sounds like it's the box again. Call Customer Care.

I know this forum is old, but go to simulator in structure scan and then back. This has cleared up my same issue and my partners. Mine locks onto bottom when I'm real shallow to long, and will stay that way until I go to simulator mode and then back. :D
