Ron,
We pay him to provide leadership. He didn't do his job. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.
He screwed up.

I don't know you personally but it seems that you have a hatred of George Bush. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. For the sake of discussing Hurricane Katrina, read what was referenced by Ron, it states the facts that are relevant, which people need to pay a lot more attention to instead of bashing someone.

...thanking the Lord that it was President Bush and not President Gore during 9-11, and that it is President Bush and not President Kerry for Iraq, Afghanistan, and now the Gulf Coast.

I also thank the Lord that we have a President who looks out for everyone, even those to ignorant to realize it.

God Bless our troops and God Bless America!

Ron and Gator,
I don't hate George W.
I get the same propaganda from the other side, leaving out one whole viewpoint, too.
I just look at what happened, and how he has dealt with it, and it comes up short.
I have 12 employees. They do the work on the jobsite, but I am responsible for the work they do. My name is on the company, on the contract, and on the pay checks.
So I make damn sure that what they do is what I want done, the way I want it done and that are putting out the quality of service my customers are paying for.
When things go wrong, I'm the one my customers call. And they're right to. I'm the one they hired to do the job, and I'm the one who agreed to do it, per plans and specs. and schedule.
I don't think Al Gore would have been a better president.
I don't know if Gore or Kerry would have handled Katrina any better.
I do know that if they had done this poor a job, I would have been all over their asses.
I was once asked by a friend if there was ever a president that I liked. I told him, it's not a popularity contest. I like all of them as people. But I do demand that they do their jobs. And I think it's the responsibility of all Americans to critique them when they're in office. I think Bill Clinton is a lying piece of ---- for lying to the American people.
I don't think it's okay not to speak out about incompetence, just because it's someone I voted for. How in the world will we get a government that listens to us and does what we want, a representative democracy, if we don't say what we think? They'll just keep on lying to us if we don't call them on it. And making excuses doesn't get the job done.
I pay his salary, and, as long as I continue to do so, I will expect George W., or whoever is president, to do a good job.
And to stand up and take responsibility if he screws up.
Otherwise, he's just another Bill Clinton.

I am not a George Bush fan by any means, nor do I hate the guy. I certainly don't envy his position at all. Its gotta be tough to take - kinda like an umpire, no matter what call you make... 1/2 the people are gonna be pissed!

I do think that there were some things that could have been done better by the local authorities.

For example:

If you are going to have all the people go to the Superdome and the Convention center... Wouldn't it be a good idea to stock it with food and certainly plenty of water? Some version of security at both locations would have been a pretty good idea as well!

Lastly, when people were raping someone at the Superdome, where the hell were the other 50,000 people that were there? I mean, I'd like to think that if I was anywhere near a rape I would do my best to stop it... or gather up some more people and stop it.. whatever it took.

With that said, I must say hindsight is always 20/20 and put in a situation as these people were in at the Superdome who knows what I would have done! Although, I know having a rod and reel and making a few casts probably would have crossed my mind at least once!

Sad situation made worse by a media who loves to condemn! Watch the news anyday, even when there isn't a tragedy such as this.. and its 5 or 6 bad stories for every 1 good story and they always run the good story dead last for a 30 second spot just before Leno or Letterman come on!

However, its not just the media, its all of us! Count the positive posts on this site vs. the negative posts and see what you come up with.

There is no question that Mark P knows construction, but where is his expertise in emergency services? If he knew, he would retract his statements. The Governor of La. and city officials of New Orleans dropped the ball.

After hours and hours of the Katrina disaster on cable news and every other channel for that matter, it's calming to find an unbiased opinion from the heart and it's right here on the Western Bass forum.

Tom I don't know you but after reading your post I respect you.
No hate, no blame and no agenda, just facts and understanding.

Thanks I needed to read that.
