Salmon trip

Post by Napa Rick »

I was just asked by a friend with a new boat to go salmon fishing this weekend around Duxbury. Because I've got about 15 bass rods in my garage, I'm expected to be the guide, but I haven't been outside the Golden Gate in about 15 years, and even then I didn't know what I was doing.

Any ideas where I can get some quick info between now and Sunday? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if these guys have fished much before.

Keep it reel,

Napa Rick

Check the fishing report that is written weekly (every Thursday) by Brian Hoffman in the San Francisco Chronicle (www.sfgate.com).

I haven't seen today's on-line article, but you can do a "columnist" search on that web site and it'll display the last 3-4 of his reports.

I just got turned onto this site the other day. It has a bunch of reports for fishing at Duxbury, maybe even some coordinates. You will have to create a username, login is required.

Its the site for coastside fishing club, has thousands of rabid members whho fish saltwater like we fish freshwater.

If you have not been out in 15 Years, this might not be the
weekend to go. there is going to be a huge southerly
swell this weekend. better check the weather.
the coastside guys are on ch 19 of the VHF radio
they will give you GPS numbers and info. if you decide
to go.

Why don't you just either troll around by Vierra's on the Sac or go up to Knights Landing and Back bounce flatfish and kick back. I take my Triton up there and anchor all the time as a matter of fact i'll be up there tomarrow, and I have caught some nice bright fish there the past 3 years.

You are unbelievable. Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how we did (assuming we don't decide to stay up all night Saturday - we haven't gotten together in a while and sometimes, well, you never know).

I love this website. It's just a bunch of people helping people, whether we know each other or not. Too bad everybody doesn't feel this vibe. I'm sure it would solve alot of the world's ills.

No disrespect intended but going out the gate for newbies is't a good idea unless your following or with someone that knows the water to help keep you out of trouble. We have a crappy swell this weekend too. The Marin coast is not a place to find out something on the new boat isn't working. River fishing for Salmon might be a better option. Be safe

Thanks for the warning David. I think we'll be okay. This is not the owner's first boat. He's been on the water for years from Belvedere Yacht Club both under sail and power. He's just never been an angler. I appreciate the heads up and I'll be wearing my PFD before I hit the dock.
