The transom on Z118 has steps and only flat area are next to the motor and near the pump/drain holes underneath. My installer had installed the LSS2 transducer and the reg transducer side by side next to the motor...there's only about 2-3" between the motor and the transducers. The problems I'm having are:
1) Bottom reading on sonar on auto mode gets false reading time to time showing only 1-2' when we are actually on 20' of depth. Once I turn off the auto depth mode and change to manual, it reads fine...even when I return it back to Auto depth mode.
2) on the Side scan mode, left side of the center gets white spots... I was told by a friend those are some sort of interference. I tried to lift up the motor to clear the 180 degree but it still showed white dots....structure down scan is fine. These white spots show on both HDS7 and 8. We're thinking, reg transducer may be causing the interference...thinking about moving it down to the second step....but not sure....so darn frustrating and confused by different suggestions.
3) HDS 7 unit came with a transom mount transducer and I've used a kit to mount that transducer on the trolling motor. I was suggested that trolling motor transducer pot is better... Then another Lowrance customer said both are exactly the same. Which is better? Any pros and con?
I've attached few photos of transom areas. Expert Recommendations are greatly appreciated. Also if you have a Ranger boat and have a LSS2 transducer, can you post photos where you have the LSS2?
Thanks!!!

My installer recommended the second step....remove the down sonar transducer next to the LSS2 and install it on the second step.
