I recently replaced my old LCX-16 with an HDS 8 gen2 2 with structure scan at my console. My boat was already wired for another LCX-16 in the front too but the front unit gave out awhile ago. I put my existing LCX-16 up front to replace the one that died. It lasted a few trips but now it will only stay on for a little while before turning off, or will not turn on at all. I'm not sure if the unit is just so old that it gave out or if there is a problem with my wiring up front that seems to be frying the units. Is there some way to tell for sure, or anyone who works on these older units?
Also, if the LCX-16 is indeed done, would the existing wiring support an Elite 7 HDI or X? Hesistant to buy a new unit if my wiring is just going to destroy another...need to figure out what is going on, any help would be greatly appreciated!
LCX-16...faulty wiring or just old broken unit?

Re: LCX-16...faulty wiring or just old broken unit?
I would check the wiring connections and condition of the wires. If you had an X-16 up there, the wiring has been there for a long time. Make sure the hot wire has an inline fuse at the connection source to protect the units from any surges or shorts. Check all ground wires for any corrosion and clean or replace old wires where the shield is cracked or compromised.
If you purchase an Elite HDI, it will come with it's own power cord that will be used to replace the X 16 power cord because the connection to the back of the unit is different. You will also replace the old transducer with the new HDI ducer provided with the Elite unit.
