Castaic cable fell off

Post by mark poulson »

I fished Castaic Saturday, got cabled, and went out to the boat this morning and the cable was gone.
This is the second time I've had it fall off and I'll have to get inspected again.
Make sure whoever cables you tests it before you drive off. Those kids aren't too sharp about cabling, evidently.

They don't fall off. What happens is they get pinched between the strap hook and the eyelet on the boat. They get smashed and cut in the pinch. I have lost three. You have to put a zip tie above the U and pinch point on the eyelet and twist the cable tight to keep it from sliding down into the pinch. Hope that makes since.

I've had mine hooked to the eye of the strap 4 different times since this whole thing started at Castaic.

Great! Now I have to remember to check my Castaic cable that was put on on Saturday as well. Just another detail to remember to do when I go to my boat again. :|

Mark...I work with these people and take offense to the statement that the "kids aren't too sharp when it comes to cabling". If you call the lake and let them know right away when you notice that the cable was off then all they have to do is look up when you were at the lake and it shouldn't be a problem. Not sure why you have to go on the forum and bad mouth people that do the best they can with what we are given. The wire is thin and does break and get pinched on occasion. You know I work up there and all you had to do is give me a call and I would have eased your worries.....don't take it to the boards.
