tragedy on Clear Lake

Post by Dbass »

I was at the BASS weight in today and they said someone in a club tourney drowned out there today. Anyone know what happened?
I know it was blowing pretty good out there.

I forget the gentleman's name. He was 70 I heard. He and his partner flipped their boat in the rough water and he did not make it. RJ Bennett and his partner found them after they had been in the water for more than an hour.

My condolences to his family.

Did he have his PFD on? Maybe his age, like mine, just would not
allow him to tread water, etc enough. Too bad, no matter what.
Makes you reflect on our using those PFD's and safety. Bill K

The gentlemans name is Burt Studdert and he was from ukiah. He fished the club there for many many years and he also was preparing for the American Bass T.O.C this comming weekend. Burt may you rest in peace and the Good Lord be with you.
If its deeper than a foot, I can catch a bass in it.

While it is a shame I hope I am as lucky to go while out doing what I love in the place I love the most. Rest in peace-now they'll all be 10lbers.

Don't sound like he didn't have his PFD on as he flip his boat. Maybe he did have it on and the water was too cold and hypo set in. That water can be pretty nasty especially around the narrows.

Burt did have a life vest on. Maybe it was a combination of clothing and cool water that added to the tragedy. My condolences to his family and partner which was a life long friend.

Not only was Burt active in his local club but he was also a long time member of American Bass on the Northern Cal circuit.
