Ranger Triton - what happens now?
Ranger Triton - what happens now?
So what happens now to the Ranger, dealerships now that BPS has acquired the boats? Will they have different distribution centers - can i buy BPS tubes now at C&C? or will it be like the nitro dealerships and now the Ranger dealers will have access to sale Nitro, Ranger, tritoons etc...

Re: Ranger Triton - what happens now?
Short term, nothing is going to change. Long term will take some time to figure out but doubt you'll see anything in the next 12-18 months.
In the automotive world VW, Audi and Porsche are owned by the same company. Each has a significant difference in price, manufacturing location and target market. Does Porsche make a less superior product because it is owned by the same company builds VW? No simply because they try to minimize the competing product lines while focusing on their core market segment. Why would this deal be any different?
If anything we will see less overlapping products and each line focus on their particular market segment. Ranger will stop trying to compete on the low end with stripped down 17' bass boats while Nitro may try to compete less on the high end in the $50k+ range. If you have $50k to spend on a boat do you really want that much tied up in a Nitro or would you rather spend that on a Ranger product?

Great post Vinnie!!!! I can only add that I get to talk with some of the bosses at Ranger....they are extremely happy with this buyout. Ranger has proven products, proven marketing plan, and proven people in place. It'd take a fool and an idiot to mess with it. Johnny Morris is neither a fool nor an idiot. He's also strongly behind our industry and conservation to keep fishing great. Will things change for Ranger down the road.....possibly and we'll have to wait and see....but if the folks at Ranger are happy about this...It makes me feel real good about sitting in a Ranger Boat.

I look at it like when Jerry McKinnis bought B.A.S.S. They are both all about fishing, so they are good stewards of their brands.

As I said in yesterday's BassBlaster, I think the main thing is that if the deal is approved by regulators, Johnny/BPS will own around 70% of the bass boat market...which is great for him and very interesting. Wish Ranger the best, great folks there imo. Merry Christmas to all!

70% sounds very optimistic. Skeeter, Basscat, Legend, Pheonix and the other 8-10 small manufactures only equal 30%. I'm sure that Morris will fix that quickly just like BPS and it will be more like 35% of the market in a few years.
