DO I NEED TO REGISTER THIS???

Post by ketchenbass321 »

Person wants to put a trolling motor on an inflatable raft. Does he/she need to register this with the DMV??? I was under the impression that you MUST register anything that's powered by an electric or gas powered motor. I did look under the DMV site, but wanted to be 100% sure to help out this friend. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately yes you do. Needs to be propelled manually to avoid registration.

When it says "boats", I'm going to assume ANYTHING that floats? Small rafts, float tubes, kayaks, canoes, small pontoons, etc???

I have two pontoon boats , if you put any "motor" on them , you need to register and obtain a CF # .
If you use only oars /flippers , no need for registration .

Really I need to read the manual then. Not too long ago a ranger told me only if it's gas it needs to be registered. Guess I was misinformed.
