Delta salinity rock barrier

Post by mark poulson »

Anyone know if the rock barrier leading into Franks Tract has actually cut down on the salinity?
Has it increased other places in the Delta?

I was out there Sunday and they had a barge and excavator out there which "looked" like they were starting to remove the barrier. I cant say for sure cause they weren't actually working on it but it looked that way. I don't see how it could have changed the salinity a single bit as all I did notice was a MASSIVE increase in the current flow in/out of fishermans cut. One would think that would overcome any salinity ASSittence the barrier could have provided.

You would think so. Dutch Slough has a lot more current, too. The water has to go somewhere when the tides move up and down.

Scary, but entirely possible.
The death of a thousand cuts. No one really notices the first one, or the next, since they are so small, but, sooner or later, we'll be bled to death!

Think about how much current dutch and fisherman's has right now, image if a bunch of these barriers went up... think how fast some current would run through certain sloughs...probably will erode levies faster with the increase on flow....scary

Thats right once the levees are eroding to rapidly for the DWR to keep up with the only way to "fix" the problem will be with tunnels or pipes!!!!! "WINK, WINK" UUUHHHHH DDDUUUUHHHHH!!! Pisses me off that they assume we are that stupid and they can just walk over the top of all these peoples way of life!
