Fowl-weather foot wear

Post by Brian Paine »

Over the years I have read several strings discussing the best rain suits and it seems that there are a couple of styles that always come to the top of the heap.

But what about foot ware for bad weather? What do you wear to keep your feet dry and warm … not too bulky, does not let you slip, has good traction …

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

I can't stand the feel of boots in the boat; too heavy, loud and clunky.

Two years ago, I started using Gore Tex Socks over my regular cotton socks during inclimate weather, and have been much happier since.

I have worn them throughout the harshest weather conditions in that time, and have not gotten my feet wet once. Plus, it allows me to continue wearing my athletic or boat shoes in the winter, much more comfortable. I even tested them by standing in a tub full of water up to the top of them to see if they would leak, they did not (although Christina thought I was pretty wierd, but what's new there).

Find them at Cabela's

Seal skins socks! Get then at The Hook (925-625-2441) By far the best way to go. I too hate the bulky feel of boots when running the trolling motor. I just wear the seal sking with a pair of old tennis shoes.

As a former deckhand in the San Diego Fleet I have always worn my Extra Tuff Boots on the water in the rain. the shorty versions that are lower than the full size work well for me and the have a non-skid sole to help keep from slipping.

I wear a pair of rubber shoes made by Timberland. They are light weight, not klunky, they have a short zipper that makes them easy to put on either on the boat or at the ramp when you put your rain gear on. The most important thing is they are comfortable to stand in all day long on the boat without slipping.

I have to agree with Mike, I love my Seal Skins. Keep me warm and dry and I get to wear my tennis shoes.

I like the " muck" boot. It is a lightweight lined rubber boot that is very comfortable and not clunky at all. In addition it doesn't have big lug soles so you can operate the trolling motors like any other shoe. I read in one of the bass fishing mags that it was made by the muck boot company and tested by one of the local clubs with thumbs up experience. I bought mine at the sportsmans expo last year. Cost about $70. The downside is cost and they are a bit too warm for summertime use.

For the last 5 years I have been wearing Columbia Titanium's and I am very pleased with them. they keep my feet warm and dry and they are light weight. I have also wore them on construction sights in the rain and they are very good boots that will last for a very long time.

Completely water proof and warm...but the best thing is that they are very cushioned and comfortable to wear all day. Retails for around $100.

Best boots I've ever bought for keeping me dry, warm and cozy...I've had the same pair now for 6 years.
