I have a 1996 Mercury 150 EFI. This is a 2.5L motor. Here’s a few notes about the motor:
-Not sure of hours but compression numbers are very good and consistent. 110-115psi across all cylinders (see pics below)
-Oil injection and idle stabilizer module have been properly removed. Timing has been manually set to the proper advance. Fuel must be premixed. (These are known problem areas on these motors that will eventually fail and will burn up your powerhead)
-The lower unit is from an 1987 black max 175. The unit that was on the motor when I bought it was banged up a bit and I had this other unit that was in good shape so I swapped them. I have original unit still for buyer to take if they want.
-The original starter was replaced with a high quality ARCO starter. The switchboxes have also been replaced with high quality CDI units.
-Controls are original Quiksilver controls with trim switch and electric choke. Controls work well.
-Trim and tilt unit is all original and works good.
-Cowling is in good shape with no cracks. Decals are faded on one side from past owner leaving motor in the sun when stored.
I bought this motor as part of a project to restore an old Champion boat but priorities changed and I don’t have time to work on the boat. The motor should go to someone who can really use it. It’s not perfect of course, it is 26 years old but it’s very strong and should run great for many more years if taken care of. These old EFI’s are great motors.
