Lucas Oil FAQs
Lucas Oil produces a solution for just about everything. From cars and trucks to boats and even for fishing reels and guns, they have products designed to help them run and work better. They are heavily involved in bass fishing and sponsor several tour-level pros who run their logo as they fish across the country.
As these anglers travel and meet with fellow anglers, they get asked about Lucas Oil products everywhere they go.
We asked four Lucas Oil pros what question they get asked the most. They shared those questions along with the answers for this article.
John Murray – “When do you treat gas for ethanol?”
We all know that ethanol and outboards do not mix well, and many boaters are turning to an ethanol treatment to ward off the dangers. Lucas makes a product called Lucas Safeguard™ Ethanol Fuel Conditioner with Stabilizers.
The question Murray gets most is in regards to how he uses this product. “The most common thing I get asked is if I use it all the time or just when the engine is sitting for a long period. Well, my boat never sits long enough without use, so I use it all of the time,” Murray said.
Because he uses it so often, Murray has found an easy solution to decide when to add it to his fuel tank. “I use it every time I fill up my boat with a tank of gas. I feel like my Mercury loves me for that!”
Lucas Oil makes a host of different products and each is designed to protect, clean, or improve the performance of your equipment. No matter what you are looking for, the chances are that Lucas has the right product for your needs.

Billy McDonald – “Does their oil void my outboard’s warranty?”
As McDonald travels the country on the FLW Tour with a Lucas Oil wrapped boat and truck, he gets stopped and asked questions about the products. From gas stations to tournament lakes and at appearances, he fields plenty of questions, but one is asked more than any other.
“The Number #1 question I get asked is if Lucas Oil voids an outboard’s warranty. The answer is no,” he said and added some more information to go with that. “The outboard manufacturers state that the oil used must meet or exceed their specifications, and Lucas Oil oil does that.”
As further proof of this, McDonald mentioned the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that was passed by Congress 1975. It protects consumers with products that carry a warranty.
“If any manufacturer states that you must use a certain oil, for that product, they are required to provide it to you. If they require it, they have to give it to you for free,” he shared.

Andy Montgomery - “Does it actually work?”
Montgomery says he fields many questions about Lucas Oil products, but the one that comes up the most often has to do with the Lucas Fuel Treatment. Lucas calls it a “tune-up in a bottle” as it does several things to make an engine run better.
“Absolutely, it works great,” Montgomery says in response to that question of whether or not it works. “If you don’t believe it, find the roughest running lawnmower, chainsaw, weed eater, or any engine and treat it with the Lucas Fuel Treatment. You will be amazed at how quickly it works and how much better it will run.”
This product cleans and lubricates the injectors and the carburetor, while also increasing fuel efficiency. “It makes the engine purr like a kitten, and it will perform the same magic on your boat,” said Montgomery. “You won’t hear the same change in sound on a big outboard since they are so loud, to begin with, but it is very easy to hear the sound and know that it worked when you use it on a small engine.”

Fred Roumbanis – “Where can I buy it?”
One of the questions Roumbanis hears often is whether or not Lucas Oil makes a 2-cycle oil. They do and have several different options to choose from.
They produce a semi-synthetic oil made for high-performance engines like outboards, and that is called the 2-Cycle Land & Sea Oil TC-W3. They also make several others designed for 4-stroke engines as well as some that are entirely synthetic. No matter what your needs, they have an oil to help make your engine run better.
Once Roumbanis answers the first question, he often gets a follow-up. “People ask where they can buy it,” he said. “They have quite a few dealers, but the one that is almost everywhere is O'Reilly Auto Parts, so I usually recommend that one first.”
Lucas Oil products are also available at major national brands like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, NAPA, Pep Boys, and more.
Locally and for online purchase, FishermansWarehouse also carries the Lucas Oil brand and the Lucas Oil website also has a search tool to find the closest retailer to your location
