Climate and Nature Based Solutions initiatives

CDFW is pleased to announce $8.6 million in new grant funding under Climate and Nature Based Solutions initiatives. One of the recipients is the Sierra Valley Groundwater Management District, which was awarded $809,076 to help restore and enhance floodplains, wetlands and mountain meadows to benefit fish and wildlife species and their habitat. Another is the River Partners, awarded $365,232 for the Holtville Alamo River Trail Expansion and Habitat Restoration Planning Project.

The benefits of these two projects include restoring 70 acres of riparian habitat, constructing a multi-use trail along the Alamo River in the Imperial Valley and enhancing water resources for migratory birds and groundwater-dependent ecosystems.

In 2022, CDFW rolled out $200 million in new grant funding. This funding supports key initiatives including conserving 30 percent of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030 under California’s 30x30 initiative, Nature-Based Solutions and increasing the pace and scale of restoration through Cutting Green Tape. Projects awarded in this cycle under the Climate and Nature Based Solutions initiatives fund salmon management and habitat restoration in the North and Central Valley.
