Columbia River Salmon/Steelhead Anglers Board Positions Open

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking nominations for four vacant positions on a citizen advisory group responsible for reviewing proposals to maintain and improve sportfishing opportunities for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River and its tributaries.

The Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Recreational Anglers Board's primary role is to advise WDFW on implementation of the Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement Program. Revenue generated by the endorsement program helps support activities necessary for managing fisheries, including data collection and evaluation, permitting, and enforcement.

More information about the endorsement program can be found online at http://wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/crss_endorsement/faq.html

Board members also serve as an important communication link with anglers and angler organizations. Candidates seeking appointment to the board should have some understanding of Columbia River salmon and steelhead fisheries, along with the ability to communicate effectively with the fishing public.

The board meets at least two times per year (February and August) to review and evaluate program implementation, program expenditures, and to provide recommendations consistent with the intent of the endorsement program. WDFW will provide financial assistance with meeting-related travel costs.

WDFW will consider candidates from the following regions: Region 1 (eastern Washington), Region 2 (northcentral Washington), Region 3 (southcentral Washington), and Region 5 (southwest Washington). More information about the regions can be found at http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regions/

Board members will serve two-year terms, effective 2018, and can be reappointed. The board consists of 10 members.

Any individual or organization can nominate a candidate. Nominations must include the following information:

  • The nominee's name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number.
  • The nominee's affiliation(s), if any.
  • The WDFW region the nominee is seeking to represent.
  • The name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number of any organization submitting the nomination.
