While each and every day should be Mother’s Day, we put special emphasis on the moms in our lives once a year.
I know that my mom has done so much for me not only as an angler but as a man. The least I can do is research the latest and greatest fishing gear to get her something she’ll really love.
In 2020, Mother’s Day falls on May 9. Here are a few great choices for the fishing mom in your life:
Our mothers spend so much time and money on their family that they neglect themselves most of the time. If it looks like your mom’s tackle box is on its last legs, consider getting her an upgrade. I love this multipurpose bag from Daiwa because it’s not only great for tackle but you can store small drinks and snacks in here as well. It’s water-resistant, durable, and comes with a corrosion-resistant zipper so it won’t wear down or break over time.
The bag comes in two sizes ranging from 18 x 12 to 15 x 12. They fit snugly in most boats' dry storage areas and will comfortably slide under the seat on your pontoon.
What better way to show mom some love than by getting her a new lure to try out?
Better yet, get one for her and yourself and take ‘em both out on the water. Give it a test run, learn it, and then take that knowledge and plan a fishing day with just you and her. She’ll not only be impressed that you planned a whole trip yourself, but you’ll also have the opportunity to show her how to use her new lure or maybe she will show you?
The 3DB Popper is a lure that draws bass attention in two ways. It creates two different types of splash. One is a concentrated, far-reaching stream, and the other is a wider, shallower burst. It’s a great option for the fishing mom who likes the excitement of topwater blow-ups.
If you’re really struggling to figure out what to get your mom for Mother’s Day, there’s always a fail safe. Go with a lure that everyone knows and loves. If your mom loves to fish, she definitely loves Yamamoto Senko Worms. These are some of the best lures on the market, they’re easy to fish, and they come in a large quantity so you know she’ll have them for a while.
Best of all, Senkos come in so many different colors, sizes, and types of baits. The picture above is the standard Senko Worm but they have swimbaits, jigs, craws, and much more. If she’s never fished these lures before, this is a great way to get the ball rolling. She’ll be hooked by the end of the day.
Perhaps fishing is something your mom has always wanted to do but has never had a chance to enjoy. If that’s the case, she might need a little more help.
Getting her a rod and reel combo like the Ugly Stik ensures she gets all the gear she needs without having to worry about matching rods and reels or playing around with the different styles.
This is one of the simplest rod and reel combos to fish, it’s affordable, and it’s still a great option that she can have for years.
The rod is lightweight, durable, and comes with a clear tip design that improves the sensitivity so she’ll have an easier time feeling every nibble. It’s also a two-piece rod which makes transportation and storage easier. They sell rods in varying sizes but I’d recommend going with something in the six-foot range. It’s an exceptional starter kit and she’ll be thrilled that she gets to learn from you.
All this fishing gear is great but what happens once the fish is caught?
Is your mom the one back at the shore prepping and cooking?
If so, she’d probably love this electric fillet knife from Rapala. It has twice the speed and three times the power of your “run-of-the-mill” knife and it comes with dishwasher safe blades.
The knife also has an eight-foot power cord so it should be long enough to reach a power source wherever you are. The knife is smooth and vibration is limited using a unique and new design so your mom will be able to get every piece of flesh off your catch without having to waste anything.
This time of year is for the wonderful mothers in our lives. They sacrifice so much, constantly give, and are always thinking of their family. Any fishing mom would appreciate any these great gift ideas so put in some time, do your research, and get her something she’ll really love this year.
