GET BUSY LIVINGJust when we thought that things were going to get back to normal, our new friend Omicron showed up in the world, adding new layers of uncertainty. We’re not doctors or scientists so we cannot tell you what it all means. However, we are fishing addicts, and we’ve been fortunate to travel safely throughout the pandemic, and intend to continue to do so as long as reasonably possible. With that said, we can tell you that most of the best lodges, outfitters and guides have limited availability these days. If you’re looking to travel in 2022 or beyond, it pays to get on the books NOW. Yes, take appropriate precautions and check on refund or cancellation policies, but if you don’t act soon you’re going to get shut out. Call Hanna at (703) 932-6299 or email her at fishmore@halfpastfirstcast.com if you have questions and she’ll get you answers ASAP — but don’t let uncertainty control your life and force you to miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime. |

CHANGES AND CHANCES IN GUATEMALA |
Our first update is at Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala, sailfish capital of the world. They plan to increase their pricing for 2022 trips on January 1st. That means if you put down a 10% deposit in the next FOUR DAYS you will avoid that price increase. If you are looking for the ultimate family vacation or corporate trip, or if you just want to get a lot of billfish bites, this is paradise. We are headed back for Round Three in February, and while there are no openings while we’re there, there is some very scattered availability in January, February and March with varied boat options. Act now to get in on them. |

MEXICO BASSAnglers Inn Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos remain our happy places, the destinations that feel like a second home. Availability is EXTREMELY limited for the remainder of the spring at both lakes. We have a large group headed down in January that is completely full, but we do have some spaces on our June trip. Again, there are rooms and guides available here and there, but don’t wait if you have interest because pent-up demand has the calendar nearly full. Also, whether you’re just considering a trip or already have one scheduled, be sure to check out our “Ultimate Guide to El Salto and Picachos” which likely answers many of your questions and concerns. |

RETURN TO PANAMAAfter two trips to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge — in April and November — we’ve decided to go back in November 2022. If you want to experience exceptional multi-species angling, incredible scenery, world-class service, and sushi-grade tuna, this is the trip for you. We liked both months equally, for different reasons, but we’re headed back in November because that conflicts with fewer of your tournament schedules and family plans. The lodge accommodates 12 anglers on three boats, and they’ll hold all of the spaces for a limited time, so this is another one that’ll require fast action. |

A DOMESTIC OPTION — FLORIDA TARPONFinally, for those of you still hesitant to travel outside of the US right now, or those of you who just want to catch a tarpon, we’re heading to Islamorada, Florida in May. We have a pretty sizeable group already built, but there is at least one boat/guide left. This is prime season, and it’s not just tarpon — there are various other hard-fighting species available in the backwaters and on the flats. It’s also remarkably easy to get there. A quick flight to Miami (non-stop for many of you) and a short drive down a single road and you’re at home base. |
