Ish Monroe Moves Up the Leaderboard, Tops Field for Day Two

Shane Martin Maintains Co-Angler Lead

OAKLEY, Calif. – Another day of 100-plus degree air temps, met the 139 pro and co-anglers battling for the BAM champion title on the California Delta and by Day Two’s top-10 field cut, Ish Monroe of Oakdale, Calif. added a limit of 17.67 to his Day One 21.64 to take the lead going into Championship Sunday at the final stop of the West Division’s Pro/Am presented by Tackle Warehouse and the City of Oakley.

Monroe’s two-day total of 39.31 gives the Delta local a slight edge going into the final day of fishing with little more than a pound separation over his nearest competitor.

Although he did share his fish were coming from 1- to 4-feet, he was as tight-lipped about his baits as the Delta largemouth he is attempting to catch. Monroe did share the Delta was in a “pick your poison” phase.

“There is a topwater bite, a flippin’ bite, a ChatterBait bite – my co-angler caught ‘em on a dropshot,” he shared. “You can probably catch ‘em on whatever you want.”

He described the one location he is targeting as a mix of structure – vegetation, rock and wood, with both dirty and clear water.

“It’s dirty in the morning and cleans up in the afternoon when the tide changes and filters it through the grass,” he said. “There is every type of grass you can think of – hydrilla, pennywort, hyacinth, alligator grass, snot weed – you name it, the grass is there.”

The vast amount of vegetation has Monroe putting his Lowrance Ghost trolling motor to work. “My RELiON batteries are keeping my Ghost going; because I’m covering a lot of water,” he said “I’m makin’ a long run to my spot and my Yamaha Outboard is getting me there and getting me back. It’s the Delta, you need reliability and with this long run, you need to be fast. My Skeeter is fast. I passed up multiple guys today.”

Monroe plans to stick with his area for Day Three.

Co-Angler Shane Martin Looks to Go Wire-To-Wire

With 29.52, California co Shane Martin, from Disco Bay, extended his lead on the am side to nearly six-pounds by adding a Day Two limit of 12.58 to his Day One 16.94, that included a 7.12 big bass.

Martin is paired with Monroe for Championship Sunday, the final day of fishing.

Fans can join the anglers and root for their favorite fisherman at blast-off and weigh-in each day at Big Break Marina or follow online at the BAM website and socials.
