Josh Polfer Protects His Lead At The Columbia River For BAM Super 60 Pro Tour

BOARDMAN, Oregon – Idaho angler, Josh Polfer preserves his spot atop the Super 60 Pro Tour leaderboard for Day Two, once again leading by both the heaviest weight at 35.75 and 61 scorable bass as BAM’s Boardman bass battle continues at the Columbia River in the televised Bass Boat Technologies three-day event presented by Tackle Warehouse, the Boardman Community Development Association and Conservation Sponsor Fisherman’s Warehouse.

Polfer stuck with the same school of fish that he found success with the first day and plans to return to the same school for the final round.

“I wore them out, but there are still stragglers,” Polfer said. “Plus, I’ve got two-thirds of my water left to fish.”

Finding that the bite for his intended Carolina rig and jig had slowed, Polfer has focused on a dropshot with a Dry Creek Craw. He also generated bites by mixing in a Zoom Finesse worm and a Jackall Flick Shake.

“They wanted it out of the grass today, and that’s where the dropshot really worked,” he explained. “I’m chasing down weed lines and when you find a shadow – shade pocket – there are typically a few fish in it. That’s where all the bait’s hiding because that’s where they can stay safe and survive.”

Polfer is using a Megabass Evolution dropshot rod, with a Daiwa Steez spinning reel and two different fishing lines – Seaguar Smackdown braid and P-Line Braid with an 8-pound-test leader and a 5/16 ounce dropshot weight.

“If I am in spot where the currents are a little stronger or the spots a little deeper, I will go to a 3/8,” he said. “I have a 1/0 straight shank hook. These fish are so strong down here on the current, you have to have something you are more confident in to land them.”

Jake Boomer Is Going Deep

Qualifying for the top-10 field by keeper count with 60 landed, Jake Boomer of Spokane Valley, Wash. had a two-day weight total of 30.44 and a strategy to lean on quantity over quality. With an average of 30 scorable bass per day it was obvious his plan came together; but along the way he found a 6.94 largemouth.

“I set out to catch keepers, and the big one was just a bonus, a little bit of a gift, but it clued me in to what the largemouth are doing,” he said.

Boomer worked depths from 18- to 40-feet, using a dropshot to cover water efficiently. His go-to plastic was a 4.25-inch natural shad flatworm.

“Ninety-five percent of my fish came on that flatworm.” he shared. “I’ve been using 6-pound P-Line 100% Fluorocarbon, an Alpha Angler DSR and 10-pound P-Line TCB braid.”

Looking ahead to Championship Sunday, he plans to keep it simple.

“I’m just going to go fishing. I like that open-mindedness, and I’ll just go catch ’em tomorrow,” Boomer added.

Ron Mace in the Weeds

With two-days of weigh fish hitting the scales at 35.15 and a keeper count of 17, Ronald Mace from Kennewick, Wash., rounded out the top-three in the field cut by heaviest weight. After giving up on the deep fish, the angler committed to super-shallow, weedy water to find his fish.

“I’m fishing in just 12- to 13-inches of water,” Mace revealed. “The fish are up there chasin’ bait and occasionally you will see them bust and chase in the weeds. They are all big. I haven’t seen but only two that are 14-inchers. The rest are three-pounders.”

Mace’s fish are falling to a four-inch Yamamoto Senko tied to PowerPro. Long casts with braid to a 10- to 12-pound fluorocarbon leader have allowed him to target feeding fish tight to cover.

“If I can keep dialed in shallow, I’ll have a shot at 18- to 20-pounds tomorrow,” he added

The Columbia River Showdown will continue for the final day of competition on Championship Sunday, where each of the top-10 will start with a clean slate, and fish for the heaviest five bass to determine the winner.

BAM Super 60 Pro Tour Columbia River Results Day 2

Fans can follow the Bass Boat Technologies BAM Super 60 Pro Tour anglers live on TourneyX, watch the weigh-ins live at the BAM Trail website or join in-person at the weigh-ins each day.

Note: For the first two days, BAM Pro Tour anglers are ranked in Pro Tour events by both the heaviest five fish limit (Weight) and numbers of scorable bass caught (Keepers).

First place is held by the angler with the five heaviest bass, and second place is the highest keeper count. The standings then continue to alternate by weight/keepers.

Anglers ranked by weight on the leaderboard are denoted with an asterisk.

Anglers add to both of their Day One rankings on Day Two as an accumulated two-day total. Once both days are tallied, the field is cut to the top-10, all results are zero-ed out and the final 10 anglers fish for the five heaviest bass on Day Three to determine the champion.

It is set to be an exciting event and a game-changer in the 2025 points race. The top-10 going into the event were:
